AMV's and the programs used

I myself am a total noob when it comes to making AMV's and even sigs .... so i was wondering what kinda programs should i use ... cuz u can check out the one's i have so far but i made them in Windows Movie maker and was wondering if or wat programs wioould be better and also if anyone knows any noob site for noob sig making that'd help to ... i appreciate it thx
