I need some help in compressing the file!
Hullo.
I suppose most of you aren't very mac savvy, but if help can be found I am willing to take it.
I'm submitting one of my AMV's to a con this year but the filesize is nothing short of MASSIVE. I'm going on a camping trip soon and the deadline is comming up.
I need help on compressing the video to at least under 300 MB without sacraficing *too* much quality. I am willing to settle for a grainier image, but not what happened when I compressed it the way I did.
I converted it to several different filetypes, compressing where I could and the AMV looked very pixelly and every character in it looked more like gelatinous BLOBS more then anything because the picture quality was *THAT* horrible.
And that was at 350 MB.
Uncompressed it goes to about 800 MB and in .mov format I get 1.5 gigabytes. I'm just lucky I have a lot of space on my computer.
Help?
What do you guys normally do?

we don't use mac for video editing much, but i have taught an imovie class on video concepts. so i have some experience in the matter.
i would suggest downloading ffmpegx to convert your .mov to an xvid avi.

KioAtWork: I'm so bored. I don't have class again for another half hour.

800MB for sure isn't uncompressed. It sounds like DV-Codec. MOV isn't a format, it's a container which can hold a great variety of formats. Despite this, the con should have specified the formats to submit.Larcabre wrote:Uncompressed it goes to about 800 MB and in .mov format I get 1.5 gigabytes.
I never understand why the people don't take a look at the guides section of the .org. For example there is a guide for using iMovie for making AMV's. It covers compression too.

Quoted for Truth. That's why I just stopped helping people on these forums because it seems I am merely repeating myself.Keeper of Hellfire wrote:I never understand why the people don't take a look at the guides section of the .org. Well, uh, thanks for trying to help by pointing me to GUIDES section, although that's for imovie, and I use Final Cut Pro.

Compresion is compression. It doesn't matter what program you use, it depends on your codecs.Larcabre wrote:Ladymercury wrote:Quoted for Truth. Sorry, my magical glass ball was out of order, so I didn't know that you use FCP. But that doesn't change anything. If you read my post you can see that I told you that your 800MB file is DV (Your vid is around 3:30, right?). The iMovie guide has a part that says how to export as DV and how to compress this file. So the part about the compression works for you too.
