Slightly OT, but why dont you just use Vegas for your editing, if you've already got it?

I also want to try out Premier. So its better if I have the small clips so I wont need to cut them up in Premier also

Vegas has the capability of executing scripts that handle batch jobs like this.

You can search the Web for sites where people are offering scripts either for free or for money.
