I tried that for the sake of testing and I got a message saying that VDM can't open WMV with AAC audio due to copyright issues.[/quote]

Okay, there are two things wrong here. First, a WMV with AAC audio? That exists? My WMVs are all PCM audio. What is the file you were trying to open? o.o; I'm serious, I've never heard of WMVs using AAC audio.

Two, the copyright message only comes up if you attempt to open a WMV in VirtualDubMod normally. That is, Open-->whatev.wmv. If you use DirectShowSource in an AVS script:

DirectShowSource("C:\whatev.wmv")

...then it will open without a fuss. Or it should.

If it really does complain about audio... then just use the KillAudio AVS command. That might work.

Nirvash, don't apologize. ^-^ The thing about writing a guide was just me being frustrated with myself for not having done it already. I'm perfectly happy helpin' ya out.

Peace out, all.

an AMV that a friend's friend made and the reffered friend sent me via MSN Messenger. AAC audio in WMV. Not that I care, I was just testing. But the error did come up, with and without directshowsource. Killaudio did solve the issue, as would be expected since the message was reffering me to the audio stream.

I assume

If you are using VirtualDubMod 1.5.4.1 (build 2006/release) which comes with the AMVapp, then use Open video file via AviSynth... and at the bottom of the window that pops up, change the Template: to DirectShowSource.

Or, create an AviSynth script with DirectShowSource("C:\path\video.avi") where path = the video's location and video = the video's name. Then load it (the AVS script file) into VDM with Open video file... (NOT ... via AviSynth...).

As long as you are using DirectShowSource(), VDM should not give you that error if you can play back the video in Windows Media Player. If you are using VLC as your player, it uses it's own internal decoders, so you need to install a DX50 (DivX 5) compatible codec (XviD, ffdshow, and *gulp* DivX 5 / 6) or enable the DX50 decoding in the codecs you already have. For XviD, click Start > XviD > Configure Decoder and check all the boxes in FourCC support. ffdshow should have it enabled by default (especially if you installed it via CCCP).

For some reason (regardless of any video clips I'm using), when WMM is the active window for more than 5 seconds, it closes. It sometimes closes right when I open it too.

This has been going on for a long while, and I'm in the midst of making an AMV (I've somehow managed to get a chunk of the work done in these horrid conditions). I've checked multiple sites and tried their suggestions and they haven't worked.

Is there a way for me to fix this without killing my AMV? Or at least any ideas to fix this at all? (I've tried re-installing and got no luck.)

(I use the K-Lite codec pack if that means anything, though the problems were there before I installed the codec.)

Any other info you need from me, just ask.

PS: Person to successfully help me gets the worlds second biggest hug.

Have you tried unchecking all the codecs in Tools > Options > Compatibilty?
