text help

This sounds like a dumb question but I need help on this. I am still new to vegas and I cant figure out how to add a text while the video is playing at the same time? I know how to add text's but not while the video is playing and it is show the text at the same time. Dont tell me to change the levels of the text or the clip because I tried that. It makes the clip darker and I dont want that.

are you sure your text is on a higher layer than the video?

yea, I would lower the level of the video and maxamise the level of the text, but the video gets darker and the text does not even look good. Here is a example video, its got text with the video

Here is a screen shot of the video that has a text with my name in it. I did not do this, I ented a mv contest and this guy made a trailer for it and posted everybodys name with their character
