Smart Ripper help

Post by Richard J. » Tue Sep 05, 2006 10:58 pm

I've been using Smart Ripper in the past to rip DVDs. Recently, I switched to a new computer and had to transfer my files in groups due to a weird problem that would take way too long to explain.

Anyway, I apparently f'd up and now I can't use Smart Ripper on some of my DVDs.

What files should I go and download to expand what DVDs Smart Ripper can rip from? It's been so long since I had to download codecs and what not that I've basically forgotten where I used to go for the downloads.

Thanks for any help. (If it makes any difference, I'm trying to rip from the fifth volume of Doki Doki School Hours. What should I download to guarentee rip-capability for new Geneon releases?)
If only I understood Japanese. . .

I find the best "DVD Ripper" is DVD Decrypter.

What I do, is decrypt the DVDs, then bring them into Virtual Dub Mod, go through the episodes, pick out the specific clips I want to use, then render them in a Lossless Codec. Of course, you could rerender the entire episode/movie in a lossless codec, but the file would be monsterous.

I don't know if you want to try that method or what, but I'm just saying that it works for me. I worked with Smart Ripper for a while and wasn't happy with it, so I tried out this way, and it hasn't failed me yet.

Oh, and first off, if you haven't already, download the AMVapp

God knows we can't live without it x3

And all other codecs, eh~ I go here:

Since it's no longer updated, DVD Decrypter can sometimes fail. For example later volumes of Gankutsuou by Geneon don't rip correctly. AnyDVD ripped them just fine though. I've also read that you can use RipIt4Me in conjunction with DVD Decrypter to rip discs that have newer protection mechanisms.
