Vegas just won't accept my newly converted .avi :/

Post by dixzer » Sun Sep 10, 2006 5:15 pm

As the subject says Vegas won't by any chance use the
.mkv I converted to .avi using this method :
http://forum.videohelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=268844

Anyone have any ideas as to why that is?

I'm not getting any error messages or anything, it just won't accept them for some reason.
Oh my! It's them! The men in white coats! They are coming for me!

Maybe it's your codec. I'm guessing your avi is xvid. convert it to huffyuv or legarith. To find out what codec your avi is, download a program called gspot.

Well during my quick browse of that link I'd say your .avi file is encoded with xvid which being a lossy codec creates issues for video editing programs. I'd grab virtual dub (a program available in the amvapp in the guides section of this site) and convert it to huffyuv or another virtually lossless codec.

Incidentally if you want to make sure it's xvid you can just click file information in virtualdub or indeed just right-click and check the properties of the file in windows explorer.
