Problem with VirtualDub
Hello,
I'm working with some DVD footage and I've been following the guide here on a-m-v.org about working on dvd footage: my problem is that I didn't succeed in removing all the interlaced frames, although I tried several combinations of scripts from the guide, which is thought for NTSC footage.
Unfortunately I'm working with PAL DVDs and wanted to know if there is something else I can do to deinterlace the video. After using the scripts quality has improved but there are still some annoying interlaced frames.
Any ideas?

No, my problem is different: in frames with action the section in movement (for example a man who is running or just walking) looks striped.Bauzi-and-MAC wrote:From Bauzi:

NTSC deinterlacing methods, with some excceptions, don't work that well with PAL footage. What guide are you talking about? EADFAG covers treatment of PAL footage as well. It is very likely that your footage is field blended, which causes stripes that remain after normal deinterlacing. EADFAG covers removing of field blending either, but I never tried if it works.

That sounds like the fields are being (or have been) blended, but post a pic so we can see. Go back to the source (your vob’s) and check if it is your script doing the blending or if the blending is on the disk.Silvyfirst wrote:No, my problem is different: in frames with action the section in movement (for example a man who is running or just walking) looks striped.
The following script will let you see:
Also, remember that with PAL you don’t need to use Telecide, a simple FieldDeinterlace is all you need, and make sure that you have blend set to false in your FieldDeinterlace call.AssumeBFF().SeparateFields()

I've yet to come across any pal dvd's that aren't blended so that's what I'm going to assume it is.
The guides recommend
converttoYV12()
kernelbob(1,4) #bob deinterlacer doubles the frame rate
unblend() #finds blended frames and destroys them
Decimate(4).Decimate(3) #restores framerate
converttoRGB32()
I sometimes find using blendbob() in the place of decimate smooths out the blending a bit (yes I know it's another deinterlacer). I'm still looking for a better way to get rid of blending myself.
