vegas 4 is killing me

i converted 3:30 of the amv i was working on to wmv9 512kbps. it would convert 30 frames, pause for about a second then convert another 30 frames, and it just kept on going like that. it took about 10 minutes to finish

That sounds like a buffer filling up, being emptied and then updating your statistics. Something like that... I probably wouldn't have been any faster if you saw it updating all the time. It probably would have been going 0.5frames/sec... or something...

Ten minutes doesn't sound so bad. For more complex projects, I see rendering times of over an hour for a five minute video (meaning final, for-score renders).

I repeated my render at your spec's (512 kbps WMV9): it took 8.5 minutes, or 10-11 rendered frames per second. I did not see the hesitation that you described.

well its wierd. sometimes it goes slower and other times it goes faster. but it still takes fuck ages (as in, 1-2 frames/second) when merging a standard avi and wav file into avi
