It's not the playback ability which is the problem with codec packs... it's the ability to remove the damn things which is a problem.

The amvapp is just a collection of the actual installer for the individual codecs contained. While not a playback application I find this a much safer way of doing things than to make some contrived installer that does all the adding and removing itself.

I still would prefer people to just install their own codecs individually. There are very few that you actually need and it's good to know what you have installed and what they do.

Keep a List of what works - as a back-up at all times.

While many people are used to cleaning their computers, I keep everything
I need on a CD-ROM Back-up disc; that way, I alway's know what has and will
work for my Operating system:

WinME, ATI 7200, Yamaha 724, DVD ROM Burner;

00 - yamaha_dsxg_driver
01 - ezip46
02 - radiummp3v1-263 - mp3 audio into your videos
03 - DirectVideoCaptureX8.0bda 9-28-02 for ATI
04 - 98-ME OpenGL
05 - ATI MMC 7.1 Pack
06 - Media Player full Win98 6.4.0
07 - Sub Station Alpha Install v4.08
08 - Vulture Codec Pack and Patches
09 - VKI Patch_v2 HQA
10 - install-Msscnc32dll
11 - DivXPro503GAINBundle
12 - XviD_Install
13 - OggDS0993
14 - DirectX 7-9 - Uninstaller 1v0
CRC, Fonts, Favorites . . . . .

By doing things this way, should the system crash and my hard drive fail, I just
reload everything that worked - in the order in which I recieved it and when
I recieved it. I call it "my Computers Life-Jacket" - an Install Disc 8-)
