One of my friends is having this problem with AVIsynth as well, and I have it every time I reinstall the AMVapp (after having to reformat the computer every friggin half a year... the joy of microsoft). Nonetheless, I'm not sure what to tell him, besides what's said here.... but one thing I have noticed, that doesn't make any sense, but I think should be noted. A long time ago, I was having this problem (fine, a year ago, but bear with me), and I installed a VFAPI plugin for DVD2AVI and thought that it was great, until I heard about it's problems of being used with more than one file.
So I stopped using it... but then I loaded up my d2v files... without making any changes, since I installed VFAPI (some I re-encoded with it installed, some I didn't (for test purposes)) and they all worked with avisynth (I was in the middle of an AMV at the time).
I thought it was a weird, but isolated incident. But when I had to reformat again 6 months later (evil windows... grr) I got the same error and thought, what the slag, might as well. So I installed VFAPI.. and the avisynth files worked once more.
I know VFAPI is a different, and worse way of doing the same thing as AVIsynth..... but for some reason, this has always worked for me, so i thought I might as well post it, and see what sense you guys can make of it.

Just curious, this 'unrecognized exception' error - do you get it when you try to open the d2v project in VirtualDub? The reason I ask is because I always get that error at least 4 times, no matter what script I'm using. Sometimes I'll get it 10 times, have to close Vdub and open it again - and then on the 6th try it will open, no problem. I've never had to actually change anything - it just won't open on the first 4 tries. So...is this the problem you're talking about here? I figure if it is I can try the suggestions in the first post - but the projects always open eventually, so I'm not sure if it's the same.

Lines on imported Video
Hyea, I'm using Adobe Premiere 6.5 and downloaded all the software to get AVS files to import properly. Everything worked well and I got the files to trasfer in but the only problem is when I preview the video there are flickering horizontal lines over some areas of the video, usually when lots of action or movement is happening. Rendered and un rendered both have this problem, even in exported video it shows up. The lines look rather bad and I was wondering if there was some way to get rid of them. Perhaps is was DVD2AVI setting that was off and it was of poor quality? I followed all the instructions posted in a tutorial on the subject. I'm using the newest Divx Codec and tried a couple others as well but it still shows up.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Fixing DVD2AVI/AVS "Unrecognized Exception"
^^^^ Title of thread
The titles is not "Fixing lines in my video.".
NExt time make a new topic.
What you are experiencing is classic interlacing/telecine lines. You need to read the guides and learn how to IVTC(inverse telecine) or de-interlace the video. Usually adding the commands :
Telecide()
Decimate(cycle=5)
Right after your mpeg2source line in your AVS file you will be able to IVTC NTSC(USA/Japan) material fine. So long as you have decomb installed. This will slow down your AVS script. If you're lazy or adding those two lines is too complex, then you can download one of the many area based de-interlace filters for Vdub and use that AFTER you're done editing your video and you've exported it.
Some footage cannot be IVTC'd or even de-interlaced %100. The US & earlier Japanese releases of Evangelion have this problem. There are quite a few others that do this as well.
