Well, Kevin Caldwell's "Engel" was done with a VCR and a laserdisc player... that's kinda close, isn't it?

Do you know this for a fact?

And no I don't mean to sound sassy, I'm asking because I personally don't know. Although I have heard that he used a editing program.

Regardless your point is still valid in that lots of "good videos" were made with just VCRs. Take BigBigTruck's "Crazy Ass Violence" for example.

As trythil said (stole), it's not the program, it's the editor/creator. Sure some programs have advantages over others, but it's ultimately the editor that uses these tools to create something. I've seen *plenty* of great videos made using just WMM. IIRC Arigatomyna uses WMM and that hasn't stopped her from making videos.

Yup. Except, WMM2 now, I believe.

And also, MJ has made some pretty decent videos using WMM. It's all about the vision. Doesn't matter too much how you dress it up.

Just kidding... I have to agree with the majority that it's not just the program. I personally Use premiere and AFX and would never dream about touching WMM or Vegas 4 because I like my bells and whistles. But If I had no choice Im sure I can Hack something worth watching on it.

Actually, Vegas 4 has more bells and whistles than Premiere. And they work, to boot.
