first it froze when i tried to open the software then when i finally got it to open the clips wouldnt show

Freezing without even loading anything into the program would usually be an installation problem but since you said you already reinstalled it might just be a memory issue. Don't keep too many programs running at one time. In fact, when editing video, keep only what is necessary running unless you have an immense RAM. Conversion and reading gigantic files (as is the case with your .VOBs) take up a lot of memory.

im using windows movie maker, is there any other software i can use to rip clips from?

it is but maybe when i was using dvd Decrypter something went wrong so i was asking if the was any other software i could use to get clips from my dvd, i tried uninstaling dvd Decrypter and reinstalling it but it didnt help

if something went wrong on DVD Decrypter then the vobs probably weren't extracted correctly and that's why DGIndex was freezing.

I haven't ever used it, but the God of all AMV guides reccomends Smartripper. Try it out.

I don't have any screenshots I can show you but macro blocking is when the screen looks like it has, well, big blocks on it. Portions that should have slightly different colours become blocks of one color and it looks weird.

I probably didn't explain it so well but you'll know what it is when you see it. The name is very self-explanatory. ^.^"
