why are you using an unstable codec?

Okay kid, quick test.
Let's see what the problem is, i'm going to ask you to download this video. After that tell me if it worked or not. If it did work, that means the previous videos you downloaded used a corrupt codec and everything else would work. If it doesn't work, that means the problem is in your system, since everyone here should be able to watch this video.
Good luck kid.

Actually, installing a GNU/Linux distribution on a device that can run WinCE doesn't have to be that hard.Scioneer wrote: As for the commit about not knowing how to install a codec, yeah what ever, i geuss installing a codec on a WinXP machine is harder than installing Linux on a WinCE device.
Posting verbatim error messages, or describing behavior with greater precision than "it locks up", would probably be more helpful than insulting people. As for bad reviews, is stablity NOT AN ISSUE? How can you rate an unstable video? " Your video crashed but hey you get a 5 anyway?" Would you give a game a good rating IF IT DOESN'T EVEN WORK?
i'm not going to give a good review to a video that crashes when i play it and when i try to convert it.
anyway i geuss none of this all maters to you because i'm "Just a stupid noob"
In case you're wondering why people use XviD / DivX:
- It's a de facto standard among anime fans. A cursory glance at fansub bittorrent trackers will tell you that.
- It offers a very good size / quality ratio, although newer codecs (i.e. H.264 implementations) can stomp the heck out of it.
- It enjoys greater cross-platform compatibility than most other codecs in its class, partly due to implementation in the ffmpeg library.

ok i'll do some quickies'
Have a iMac as well, great system, but my keyboard is bad(spacebar stopped working)I'm a little too broke to get a new keyboard
Linux on a WinCE device: Its not as easy as some may think. you have two options: install a bootloader, then get a large memory card, partition and format for Unix OS's, and network install the system to the card, or if the device has removable WinCE roms( the nino and the MP770 are like this) you can actually have someone make Linux roms from a blank set of roms. the problem here of course is making sure the custom roms fit. One option is time consuming, the other, expensive.
anyway back on topic. i've tried that VLC player. The Seminole Wind video stopped but did not crash the player or system, and "Sailor Moon-Moondance" crashed the system. "Welcome to Hinata" works, and the unconverted "Self Destructive Dance" worked. Progress, but not completely fixed. Reformatting the HDD is not an option since my WinXP disc is missing.

Video crashes( typical freeze up, no error message, had to reboot) under Media Player 10, but runs smoothly under VLC Player. This system is usually a rock solid, stable computer. It runs other types of videos smoothly, and is unusually reliable for a Windows PC, I just don't see how it can be my computer. VLC as i said seems to be some progress so i geuss i'll be using it for this site.
Divx might be popular among AMVers, but most SFMVers avoid the codec and use some of the older , more perfected codecs.

Unfortunately, and I don't want to sound mean, but may I suggest that this instability is not the fault of the codec and, rather, the fault of your seemingly-unusual operating system?
DivX in all its incarnations has always run perfectly stable on my Win 98 and 2K machines. Perhaps it's just not made to run too well on others; but since Bill Gates still owns far too much for his own good, I think the non-standard folks may have to bite the bullet and hope DivX pays attention to them too. It doesn't really have to though, and it's a statistical fact that the vast majority of people's computers have zero trouble with it whatsoever.

The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…
