it's alright, i can sorta relate to akuma's frustration when a newb comes in and asks "how do i make an amv, and such"... but you'll easily grow out of it in time. (both of u i mean.. )
just make sure to read the "How-to's" from AD & ErMaC's Guides. i'm sure they jump-started the vast majority of this site's AMV'ers into what they are today... a bunch of anime fanatics (like me.. ).
and u should read the sticky threads at the top of this forum. they provide more info on how to make AMV's and what being an AMV'er is.

oops i didn't read that at first, so here's my version of editing in windows movie maker (WMM).littlelooden wrote:how do i create music videos using windows movie maker?
Keiichi87's Temporary Guide to WMM
First, start up WMM and go to "File" - "Import" (or just hit ctrl-i ).
Search for, and import, the Videos/footage you wanna use.. the thing with WMM is u can't use DVD footage, unless u converted it to avi or mpeg.
This should make little clips of the vidz ur importing, which may be good or bad depending on what u want (but it is inherently bad, and many other creators dislike it). unfortunately, u can't change this clip-making property of WMM.
Now import the music files ur going to use for ur AMV. u can use mp3 and .wav files, so it's all good.. then move the audio file(s) to the audio bar near the bottom of ur screen.
Now, if u have an idea of how to start off ur AMV then proceed move clips from ur collection, to the timeline below. if u look at the the bottom-left corner of the program, there should be a set of five buttons arranged vertically. click on the topmost bottom to switch between the timeline and the storyboard. the timeline is for editing ur vidz and for timing them right. the storyboard is more for previewing the look of ur AMV in segment. kinda useless for me.. u might wanna stick to the timeline, which is not the one that has a film strip across the screen.
In the timeline, u can trim ur clips to match the beat of the music or whatever, but u can't do things like extending clips to make them longer, or applying any special effects. sorry, but u can only go directly from scene to scene using what we call cuts. every time u place another clip onto the timeline/storyboard, the previous clip seems to "cut" directly to the next clip.
There IS a certain way to do fades, that is, scenes between clips that fade slowly or sharply into each other. I found this out completely on accident (or out of curiousity..? ) that u can do this, but it's kinda hard to do. i'll start experimenting with that soon... in the meantime, u can only do direct cuts.
Keep placing clips in ur timeline and when ur finished, preview the whole thing by right-clicking on the workspace and "play entire storyboard/timeline". If u want more sound from the audio ur using, click on the lower-left-most button called "set audio levels". move the cursor all the way to the right, towards "audio" to get the full sound. for me, i have to keep moving that cursor to the right whenever i preview my AMV over again. this is one of the things i hate about WMM..
Once ur completely satisfied with the AMV you've made, click "File" - "Save Movie" (or just hit ctrl-m). Here u can adjust the settings to meet ur preference for the file size and quality. the higher the file size, the better the quality. but if ur doing, lets say... a 2-minute AMV with a decent size resolution, then u might wanna save for 20-40 MB's. Or just click on "Medium quality" in the "Setting", to let the comp decide for u.
Note that everything u make in WMM will save ur AMV as a .wmv file, which means Windows Media Video. this is different from avi and mpeg, and it puts restrictions on what programs can or can't open ur vid. rest assured, most video-viewing programs (especially Windows Media Player) will play .wmv files.
i suggest u buy Adobe Premier 6.0 or 6.5, which cost around $550. they're video editing programs that are a lot better than WMM... a lot of professional video editors use it too. i'm assuming u have Windows XP, so u should have no probs with it. other programs to keep in mind are VirtualDub (for changing framerates, size resolutions, etc. for avi's), Audacity (for audio editing like trims and fades), SmartRipper (if u have a DVD drive, and if u wanna use DVD footage for Adobe Premier), and the AMVapp (everything u need to use DVD footage).
this concludes the guide.. i'm dead tired... for more info, send me a private message/massage..
