A question about DVD ripping

.. uh... I was wondering if it is possible to rip DVD footage without having a DVD drive...

NO!

you can't RIP, you can possibly capture using a capture card. One that doesn't have macrovision(not likely) or you can get a "macrovision remover" type filter device.

Either you need a capture card, or a DVD drive.

DVD drives are like $30 now.. bug your parents.. or beat a old man up and take his wallet..

I am new to AMV and was wondering how i rip from DVD animes ? I have a DVD drive, and another question... is this the right right to be asking these questioins ?

If you use a capture card, I think the Pinnacle ones are the only ones that allow to capture from dvds

Technically, no. I'm pretty sure a regular old capture card with S-Video or RCA in and a DVD player hooked up to the TV would work. But a Pinnacle DV500+ DVD is an expensive alternative.

FYI, DVD drives can be bought for less than even a low end capture card now. the only problem would be if you don't have a drive bay free in your case to put it in.

the cap card is a second-best solution, best reserved for grabbing analog-out sources like VHS, LD, or Cartoon Network(ugh)

That's not a problem...just remove your old CD-ROM drive.
