IMAC Imovie trouble....

Post by Sailor Myst » Wed Oct 15, 2003 12:01 pm

Hey ya'll Im back, and I followed your advice and got quicktime pro.

But now I have a new problem. As I put the files into Imovie to put the video together, immediatly after I add the music, the program, unexpectedly quits. Anyone have a suggestion?

I was using music straight from a CD.
Previous experiments before I got Quicktime pro, allowed me to put slide shows of anime pictures and such to music from CDs so I should work but now I can't figure it out.

If you're using iMovie 3 you may need to update your software. iMovie 3 was notorious for constant crashes in the early stages. If you're in OS X then go to System Preferences and run Software Update while online. Download anything that deals with OS X, iMovie, and QuickTime.

I am using the Imovie that came with my computer which is no more than 3 or so months old. I was told that it had the latest software on it, so it should be an upgraded version ofImovie 3 already.

It did not have this trouble until after I got quicktime pro.

what I can't figure out as well is that I had quicktime 6.3 but after installing the key it became quicktime pro 6. could this be part of the problem, is there a way to fix it?

make sure you don't have a memory problem. imovie uses a chunk of it. also, for some weird reason imovie creates HUGE temporary files when you import clips and music into it- so make sure you aren't running low on hard drive space. Never have figured out why they made it that way- takes forever to import files and uses way too much memory. Highly suggest upgrading to Premiere or even better- Final Cut Pro since you are on a mac. With a mac you have access to one of the best (kills premiere) editing software out there for people at our level - Final Cut Pro!

I am a college student on a budget, premier, and Final Cut Pro are out of the question, I almost could not even get QT Pro as I do not even own or have access to a credit card, and the only way I was able to get it was by my mom using her card, she will not do that for me again.

I have about 30 GB of memory as I begin t o work in Imovie, as I always save homework assignments and such to a disk and not the comp, and all files leading to Imovie had been deleted as a copy of each now exists in Imovie.

Memory is no problem but I need to find a way to stop Imovie from Unexpectedely quiting.

Is there there a way to fix this?

Just because your computer is only 3 months old doesn't mean the software's only 3 months old. Follow the aforementioned advice and update all that you can.

Also, there's a difference between "memory" (i.e. RAM) and harddrive space (which is what you mentioned).

I know the difference I have worked with computers for years, I have no problems with my ram or memory.

And yes I do have the latest Imovie I checked on that, so that can not be the problem.

I think my problem has something to do with QT pro.

Any suggestions?

Yeah I do know what I am talking about, I am talking about a laptop computer thus It will not have less than average compy. An Imav Powerbook G4 system. and no i can not afford to put in another memory stick, I went broke when I got it. I also have many Cd-Rom games on my compy that my friends gave me. There are many that I don't even play but I still have.
I just deleted 3 of them gamesaves and all and got another 5 GB back. I don't believe in overriding saves if you are wondering how they can accumulate so much space.

Now I am up to 35 GB of space and still It will not work.

See how much space I use up?. Well that is not the point here I need to figure out how to get my Imovie to stop unexpectedly quiting. I tried everything even different songs. It does the same thing. It does not matter if I put the music in first or last it still tries to quit.

Can anyone please help?
