Need a little technical help [AviSynth loading problem]

Post by orezprajit » Mon Mar 15, 2004 2:40 pm

Hey, I think this may be the first time I've actually posted here. Wow, what a milestone. Anyway, I've been toying with the idea of making an AMV for a long time now and recently I actually started doing something about it, but I've hit a little snag.

I've been following ErMaC and AbsoluteDestiny's Guide step by step to obtain my footage, but when I try to load my AviSynth file with the .d2v something is going screwy. In Premiere there's nothing there and testing in VirtualDub it says there's an "mpeg2 source: unrecognized exception" error. I've tried multiple DVDs and reinstalled everything and haven't found anything that works yet. Loading the mpeg2 plugin manually in the .avs doesn't do anything either.

Any ideas?

First place I'd look would be the Unrecognized Exception sticky at the top of this board.

The most common reason I've seen for this is the wrong version of DVD2avi. Save your project as a 1.76 and try that.

Not sure if the above worked, but I had a...kinda similar problem...anyways, dvd2avi hates me because nothing i tried or anyone else suggested worked, so i use SmartRipper to rip my dvds 8) It makes a .d2v file automatically for the .vobs you rip.
Good luck with the AMV :)

 ....strayed a bit from the point...the point was that dvd2avi was making faulty .d2vs, and SmartRipper's .d2vs have always worked with avs and premiere for me :)

Or...

Get the fixed version of DVD2AVI + MPEG2DEC3 from here (it is in the zip 'decodefix100'). If you do this don't use the d2v created by Smartripper, delete it and recreate it using the DVD2AVI you just downloaded.

Also, make sure there are no other versions of DVD2AVI on your hard disk.

Ok heres a slick trick...

If you download AVS version 2.5 you need the mpeg .DLL the WORKS with AVS 2.5...

The one that you get in the walkthrough is for the older one.

To get mine working (about 10 seconds ago), i downloaded the latest version of AVS and the mpeg DLL from the handy link above.

Try that it should work.

Thanks for all the help. I would have checked the sticky thread if the forum search I did had not come up empty...

I'm sure one of these solutions will work (no internet at home, so no testing yet).
