RAMless
okay...i've learned adobe premiere a long time ago..but i wanna switch an editing app cause premiere is killing my RAM
i need an app that doesn't take a lot of RAM
but still has a lot of options and stuffz like that...something like ulead msp
here's a bunch of stuffz i really need in an editing app:
1.2(and more)tracks of video and audio
2.keyframing(and not an annoying one like msp's keyframing...something like adobe's keyframing...so i can time it to the waveform)
3.matting
4.basic effects
and it must'nt use all of my 256MB of RAM...my poor RAM...

That's true that Vegas uses more ram than Premiere unfortunately. But here's the key to use the Premiere program, and not have your ram swallowed up by it:
Turn off <i>all</i> unecessary programs that you don't need to be running. Such as: any bittorrent client, most if not all messenger programs, <b>any</b> other Adobe programs that you might have running, Winamp, and your web browser. If you have less that 256 ram, then this is the best way to get Premiere to run smoothly and for your computer to like you again. Remember, every program uses up ram, these are just some of the programs that uses the most of it like Premiere.
Hope this helps ^_^x

This goes for 256 as well.

Although he does have a point; Premiere is a notorious resource whore, lol.Zarxrax wrote:Yea, changing your editing app isn't gunna let you use less ram. Its the video that uses your ram, not your app.
Scar - you should try putting a "SetMemoryMax" line in your AVS scripts, if thats what you use to edit. It tells AVISynth to only use a certain amount, so that your system doesn't chug like a model-T ford.
I have 768mb of RAM, and if I don't put a SMM line in my AVS scripts, it even slows my system down. so yeah, get more RAM and try that.

I'd recommend getting at least 1GB of RAM into your system, if your motherboard will reliably support it. That amount of memory can be had very cheaply -- I bought two Corsair ValueSelect 512MB PC3200 (i.e. DDR400) DIMMs for around $179, and two Corsair ValueSelect 512MB PC2700 (DDR266) SODIMMs for about the same price.
The only situation I can think of where memory will eat you alive is if you bought RDRAM for some insane reason, like running in an older P4 configuration...

*About to get a system together running 16 GBs of ECC RAM*
A question I should be asking is what system you have. Did you make it yourself is it manufactured? What can you tell us about the board, processor and RAM that's already in it? How much you willing to blow on this?
From here I can help you get another stick (or two) going for your machine.
But for me? I just prefer the "Fire and Forget" system. If you're rendering anything for any reason, just get up and do something else then come back.

If a NEW Video Editing System has been released, over the past 10 years,
chances are I've had it.
