hiyas [What video editor do you use?]
Hi, I'm like...semi-n00bish and I was just wondering what application you use to make your videos. The application I use it Windows Movie maker, but my friend has been telling me movie maker totally sucks -_- (I think it's "OK".) So I wanted to find out what YOU use so I can have a slight idea on what software to I should buy so I can make videos (If that is possible >_>). Sorry if someone has already posted something about or related to this, but I was to lazy to go and search for it . Thanks and Hi in advance!

I second that. When i was a noob and still using WWM 1.0 i decided to check out premiere 6.0 and was totally intimidated. Stick with WMM till you get the full grasp of the program and read up on some of the more complex editng softwares.Pyle wrote:Just keep using WMM for the time being. If your just starting off it's better to begin with the basics.
But that's just IMO.

I currently use Premiere Pro 1.5 and After Effects 5 (although i just started with both and my comp can't seem to handle AE that well).
Sure you can use WindowsMovieMaker, but don't expect to be able to do more than the cheepest effects and export in the most obvious codecs (i.e. since most of the videos that deserve 1 or 2 star ratings tend to be .wmv files, people's opinions tend to be biased when it come to the file type they're about to dl). I made my first amv in WMM; it was a piece of crap and it showed -- due to both my lack of skills and the software's lack of quality. I immagine a good editor could make a decient AMV with WMM, but i also believe it limits your creativity and origionality when you have so few buttons, options, and numbers to play with for hours. If you have nothing better to do, try to improve your skills at editiing (if that's your thing). play around for a few hours with different options or even buy a book or read the guides for tips. It's just good clean fun... most of the time.

I don't know what you mean by "obvious codecs", but:BasharOfTheAges wrote:Sure you can use WindowsMovieMaker, but don't expect to be able to do more than the cheepest effects and export in the most obvious codecs (i.e. since most of the videos that deserve 1 or 2 star ratings tend to be .wmv files, people's opinions tend to be biased when it come to the file type they're about to dl).

DV AVIs exported from WMM2 sometimes experience A/V synch problems; for those difficult cases, there's custom WMV encoder profiles that you can use, set for very high bitrates.
Here's one I made, quality-based VBR with quality settings to the max:
http://s93771304.onlinehome.us/VHQWMV2.prx
To use, just save to your C:\Program Files\Movie Maker\Shared\Profiles folder; you should then be able to access it in WMM on the list of "Other" export options like any other profile.
Then (hopefully) you can turn the resultant .WMV file into something easier to work with, either with AVISynth's DirectShowSource() or with a converter such as, say, EO Video.
