About Adobe Premiere Pro

Post by SketchPCIS » Thu May 05, 2005 7:11 am

I'm just starting out in this whole AMV thing, and I've been using WMM2 to create the videos I've done so far.

Honestly, I've been pleased with the quality, and think it's great for being bundled with most new PCs...

But then I got my hands on Adobe Premiere Pro, at the sugestion of a friend, and I -love- it. Just one problem.

The output files are HUGE...which I suppose I can work around (there are tutorials out there for compressing them), but that's not really my main problem.

I wanted to output the AMV I'm working on to see how it looks (and see if things really do match up properly, etc) and so far I've gotten two things.

The first attempt output a 1gb file that looked horrible...it was pixelated and looked like cruddy .jpg images (and yes, I followed everything on A&E's Technical Guides to All Things Audio and Video tutorial to the letter, including what settings to use for Adobe Premiere Pro). So naturaly, I was 'wtf?' because using WMV, I was able to get a high quality (using the same footage) in about 10-20 min.

Anyway, I decide that it's just my settings or codec or something, so I just go ahead and start to edit my video.

I'm almost done, and I wanna see how things are turning out, and how they look.

Here's the problem (if it even is one) Is it supposed to take 10+ hours to render a 4 min. AMV? I'm using HuffYUV 2.1.1 (and hell, I've tried ALL the codecs that come standard with Adobe, as well as the DL that is suggested in the tutorial) and it either freezes (XivD) or gets going so slow, that it looks like it'll take me DAYS to get the file out.

See, to me, it makes little to no sense, as WMM2 could out put a file in 15 min. that is -superior- quality (Check out my 'Death on the BattleField' Video and you'll see what I mean)

Anyway...Any ideas/suggestions? I'd hate to think I lost all that work...(Spent a good 6 hours on the AMV to this point)

10+ hours export time is not normal unless you're using lots of effects or avisynth filters.

To make a quick export to see how the video looks i use MotionJPG Codec at a high quality setting.

I knew I forgot a key thing.

I've got Win XP (May not seem like it matters, but it eats up 128 megs of RAM by itself =P)

512 RAM, AMD 2200 Athlon XP

And I've only got maybe...30-40 total seconds of clips that actually have special effects within them, and it's basic stuff (Video Transitions, Horizontal Flips, Solarize (only 5 seconds for that last one) and a few PIP)

*Shrugs* And the only extra thing I had going while I was working on it was Trillian (the free version) and one chat window.

Where can I find your Codec? If it works for you, I'd love to give it a try.

I did find out I can use File->Export->Adobe Media Encoder

I was able to get out a 320x240 31MB EMV that way which had ok quality (but my source material was 640x480, and that's the size I wanted the video)

Maybe I'm just doing something wrong? But like I said, I followed the settings placed in that one guide on the site word for word. Maybe I just need to experiment *LOL*

You can find the Codec here:

http://www.pegasusimaging.com/picvideomjpeg.htm

Your PC is a bit faster than mine, maybe your hd is fragmented.

*smacks head*

God I can be dense sometimes. Yeah, I did a scan and it's VERY fragmented. *rolls eyes* Hopefully that will solve my problem

Thanks for the Codec, and I'm gonna defrag now. If that dosen't help, well...*shrugs* Maybe I can use this as an excuse for a new comp...*LOL*

Please type back letting us know if it works good for you since I'm also having problems exporting with Adobe pro 7.0.

I am also having a problem in adobe premiere pro where the file size is just too large.
I can't seem to download the codec from http://www.pegasusimaging.com/picvideomjpeg.htm
Are there any other places i can download it from, or is there any other codec (that will give me a low filesize and good quality) that i can use?

If you want to export using MJPEG (as the codec's name suggests), you can use the ffdshow codec as an alternate.

It has an MJPEG setting in it, and unresized video conversions I've tried with it do stay relatively small yet still very good quality.

Once again:
<i>The file you export from Premiere is NOT the file you'll be distributing online.</i>

You <i>want</i> a huge, lossless, full-resolution file from Premiere, which you then compress to something distributable with a <i>different</i> program (like VirtualDubMod).
