Premiere resizes video clips

Post by GFBeach » Sat Jul 02, 2005 8:00 pm

I hope this is the right section to post this question. If not, I apologize. Likewise, I apologize if this question is asked often.

Anyway, I made a video in Premiere at 640x480, and I'm trying to make a credits screen at the end. On this credits screen I have a 320x240 clip I want to have playing in the upper-right corner. Thing is, whenever I drop in the clip to appear on the screen, Premiere stretches it out to 640x480. I've tried resizing this with the Transform filter as well as separately trying it via Motion, but it makes the video really jagged. I've also selected 'Keep Aspect Ratio', which I've read is supposed to fix it, but it doesn't. Is there something I'm missing?

Premiere resizes all files to the project size, thats just how it is. If you don't want your image to be stretched, then make your image resolution the same as your project.

Ah, suck. Well, it's only for a short credits sequence, so I think I can live with it. Thanks for your help.

Using the Motion settings shouldn't be giving it problems though... I mean, I did a whole bunch of resizing of clips (sometimes changing over time) with the Motion settings in Premiere 5.1 for one of my 2003 videos, and it never gave me a problem.

Can you post a screenshot?

I actually found a work-around for this. Since the video clip I wanted to put in only had three frames of animation, I made screencaps of each frame at 320x240, dropped that into Photoshop with the credits text, saved one BMP for each frame, dropped that into Premiere, and copy and pasted till it worked. Probably not the most efficient method, but hey, it works.

Or in the future, as Scintilla points out, you can fiddle with the motion of the clip. In Premiere Pro (not sure about 6.5 and lower), things like scale and position are all in there, so you shouldn't have too much trouble dragging the 320x240 clip to a corner.

I already tried that. The problem was that it'd make the video clip look pixellated.
