What do I need for Game Music Videos?

Post by Mimeblade » Wed Jul 20, 2005 9:41 am

AKA: Where did Quu's Guide go?

I have an ATI Radeon TV USB 2.0 Adapter that lets me hook up my PS2 to my Computer, it records MPEG1 and 2 movies well enough, but the minute I try to convert it to AVI (I know nothing of X-vid conversion), it ends up like a bunch of resized images (which weren't resized to begin with), splotchy, blended, and awful.

See, I have lots of 3D Games that have an extremely high quality about them, but it's hard to make something 3D when the Video Recorder/Compression thinks it's 2D, or at least it's processing speed for Editing is slow and completely off at best *has horrible memories of working with DBZ Budokai 3 footage in Windows Movie Maker*.

I got sick of Movie Maker and got Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5, now before you groan and say anything bad about Pro, that's not my problem, not in the least.

My problem is working with 3D Footage I record from my USB Adapter, when I record it, the resolution is rather high, however this makes for major slowdown in the editing process.

It's been recommended that I convert to Digital Video (DV), but I'm not familiar with that or what I would need for it.

Summary: I record stuff in basic MPEG2, but it's too slow/big for editing, so I need to convert it to something faster that doesn't mess with the Resolution much, especially since I'm working with 3D non-FMV Game footage.

Another problem I've had although I'm not sure it applies to everything though, is Framerate Speed in sync with Audio. Like I said, I converted a few 5 minute clips to AVI and it really messed things up, a couple frames froze mid-way through the clip, plus the audio track was skipping, to say nothing of the low-rez pixellating...blargh, nightmares.

So any help anyone can provide would be most welcome, thanks.

Whoa, capslock...

Like I said, I don't know how to compress stuff into DivX or XviD (unless Premiere Pro can do that?) for that matter, I was also told that Premiere Pro doesn't like MPEG4 formats, so I was thinking about doing something along the lines of HuffYUV (lossless) or Digital Video (lossy). Which works better and looks good for editing?

Also, I'm not sure how to extract AFS (not to be confused with ASF) from my PS2 Disc, it's not for FFX, it's for a Japanese Import Game called Berserk which actually has all the files in separate folders already, I just can't extract them into a Video format, the AFS files include movie files and sound clips.
