Clip Creator Sucks!

Post by Starwind Amada » Wed Jul 27, 2005 2:26 pm

I've been using a freeware program called http://mac.softpedia.com/get/Video/Clip-Creator.shtml to create video clips. The problem is, the thing takes forever. It took an hour to create a minute-long clip. Also, there is no progress bar and the program locks up all other computer functions while it is running. I am fed up with this piece of shit. I was thinking about purchasing http://www.apple.com/quicktime/pro/ because it seems more reliable. Should I spend the $30 for QTP or is there something else I can use, because I have had it with Clip Creator.

I guess the question is what kinda system are you running it on? I have a G4 1.67 and it runs fine, Though I never use it. I bought QTP and I love it. It offers far more control then clip maker, allowing you to do more things. And things are good. =)

I'm running it on a Macintosh Powerbook with a 1.5 GHz PowerPC G4 processor with 512 MB DDR SDRAM memory, using Mac OS X. I don't think it's the Mac, as it is fine with other programs. I am using the newest version of Clip Creator, so it's not like I'm using one designed for Mac OS 9 (Classic). I think it's just that the program is utter crap that can't handle what it's supposed to. Good thing it's free.

Oh, since you are also a mac user I was wondering what program you use to convert after you rip? Also what do you encode it as? I'm trying to find the best quality.

Thanks,
Keith

You should get QT Pro. I use it and it is great. You can pick what clips you want to make.

JudgeHolden, after you rip the DVD you can use DiVA to convert your vob into something editable. Then edit it with iMovie or whatever you have. After you export your video you can use ffmpegX to compress your video into Xvid. If you are using iMovie there is a guidefor you.

Yeah, that's exactly what I do.

I have been screwing around and found a way to get a near DVD quality. I started using the program called Mactheripper and it can rip the DVD directly to Mpeg2. Now with iMovieHD the problems found in the guide have been eliminated and you can deal with any size file, so I import directly. This allows you to skip the conversion process (a process in which you do loos quality). Now I rip by chapter so the chunks are not to big. The only issue is time, as Mpeg2s of that size can take a while to import, but the quality makes up for it. I working on a AMV right now with this process and it seems to be working great. I have used the process that you guys said for my first AMV and I was unhappy with the quality.

Thanks,
Keith

Clip Creator doesn't rip DVDs. It just breaks up Quicktime clips.
