I recently downloaded the AMVapp due to the fact I have started to experiment at making my own AMV. I pretty much overcame my prior issues with my software and things concerning it, but lately "ffdshow" has been popping up multiple times whenever I open anything non-avi pretty much. As a result, my player tends to usually crash and dies a very horrible death.
I went to my system configuration and made an attempt to remove "ffdshow", but when I did it keeps running. How on Earth can I get rid of this thing? And what the heck is it really doing the whole time?

If Explorer is instructed to do file previews for video, it will use whatever codec is registered for a particular file. So that's why ffdshow keeps coming up.
If you don't want this behavior, you can disable it in ffdshow's configuration dialog.
I really suggest that you don't dump ffdshow, though -- it's a very elegant solution for handling multiple video and audio codecs, and it's often the best way to play a video under Windows. Is there anything else on your system, video or audio-wise, that might be doing weird stuff?

Fixed my issue
I went to "ffdshow"s webpage and saw that there was some error with the new build. So I just went, and uninstalled the AMVapp. Then I reinstalled it, but I excluded "ffdshow".
I may re-download it when I see it as necessary at some time. I already have a lot of different codecs, which might explain the error. The issue probably occured when I tried to download the new build of "ffdshow" though. Who knows. I fixed it thanks to your help, and for that, thanks.
