1. welcome to the org

2. look at the sticky at the TOP of this forum, you'll find useful information on editing software

3. do a search - there are literally dozens of like topics such as this one (well, all give the same advice as I'm listing here, so... :D )

4. read the guides - they are full of helpful webistes on the ins and outs of AMV making

hope this helps...

You can use windows movie maker, I find it to be a wonderful starting tool... but if you want to just jump into the pro asap you can give premiere or vegas a whirl :] (I am to stupid to learn premiere, everytime I try putting an effect into a clip it like kills everything :xp:).

Another great suggestion would be to buy (or at least rent) DVD's. Your going to get crappy quality from Downloaded anime.

Wo looks like I have research to do. The problem is that a lot of series I like are unlicensed still. Will fansub files work with most apps?

like chap said, I would just get some dvds- from friends, rental store, etc... because I made my first video off of downloaded footage (off of crappy animes from kazaa) and it turned out horrible despite my so-called editing skills xD

If your to cheap to buy your own dvds than just make sure you only use clean footage that has all the same screen size and no logos or subs (or you can get rid of subs and logos using program).

You can always find a japanese web-site and buy from there, I dont know if they would ship it here but I do know there is sites that will actually go out buy you the dvd in japan and ship it to you.. (for instance bemanistyle ships japanese ddr games to us). You could do a search on google for them.

Otherwise just use an anime you do like that has been released here in north america.

Thx Shinji. Does the quality in fansub really make that much difference?

Well after a video has been compressed and decompressed so many times and what not it does drag down the quality, plus most fan-sub sites have to lower the quality of the video so they can fit all of the videos and not get killed from bandwidth consumption (with dvds, you can have maximum quality * and not even hit the 100 megs maximum video size on amv, and if your video has low quality almost all people who give opinions on your video will drag you down for

effort, video quality, reviewability, overall, and if its bad enough it can effect what they think of your action/editing skills (for instance it will skip).

* = maximum quality meaning dvd quality, or close enough to it so that the human eye will believe it is the real thing.

and you should read amv guides, they're confusing as heck but they help you understand footage, and editing in an entirely different way.
