video now showing up in preview in Premier

Post by Wildfire2k2 » Fri Sep 16, 2005 11:37 pm

I just got back into premier after a few years, and I'm working with pro, but I'm having some simple problems. Specifically, when I play the AMV in the right video screen the video doesn't show up at all. I'm sure I'm just doing something wrong, but it's frustrating because it doesn't work quite like I remember. Even after I render the work area it still doesn't show up. Is there some obvious setting I'm missing here, or is there a setting conflict somewhere between the project and the video?

ah crap.. I just realized that the video I'm working with is 23.97 (Advent Children raw, actually) and the AMV guides here say that, at that speed, editing is a serious pain in the ass. I guess I just have to follow the guide to mess with the video/audio speeds.

Considering you just said you were using Advent Children, I don't think the frame rate is the main problem.

Try the link in my loud, obnoxious sigbar for suggestions.

oh crap I just realized that. I had forgotten all about the problems premier had with divx. Crap.. ok then, I guess I gotta take it into avisynth or some similar program and re-encode it?

Well, if you want to use AVISynth to frameserve, you don't even have to do any re-encoding... it's just that that method is slower.

Yup, VirtualDub(/Mod) would be perfect.

i've been through this as well

the raw file of advent children is pretty big as it is, if you convert using virtualdubmod, into a lossless encoding like huffyuv... you are going to end up with a LARGE video file.. if you got the HD space for it, sure be my guest and convert...might do you good.. but if you have a real fast CPU, loads of RAM and low HD space, just frameserve using avisynth..

search the forum, in this first page, there are about 2 topics, devoted to this exact problem.
