Question regarding starting an AMV

Post by DJ Spinz » Thu Nov 10, 2005 2:55 pm

OK I am totally new to making AMV's. I want to try and make one for A-Kon next year but I need help getting started. What kind of programs do you guys use? I'm learning Virtual Dub right now but I don't know if it can be used to make AMV's or not. Also, can anyone give me any pointers? Thanks.

virtual dub is used more with decrypting dvds and sshhh....getting rid of subtitles. if you want to start making amvs i suggest getting the adobe premier demo or the sony vegas demo. if you cant afford those after the demo is over use windows movie maker.

yeah, but how well does it work? considering adobe and vegas are both $800, I don't see how windows movie maker could be all that great.

You won't have much luck asking for help unless you have a specific question. The regulars here simply do not have the time to walk every new creator through the AMV making process. Once you have an idea you can look to the guides section and post a question once you get stuck.

Alternately there are a few creators who will help you get started (see my sig.)

BTW Virtualdub does not decrypt DVDs. You need a program called SmartRipper.

I'm sitting here playing around with Windows Movie Maker... I'll try it out for a little while, and see what I can do with it. What I really wanted though was just general advice for getting started. I have a few song ideas in my head but I have no idea what anime to use, nor do I know how to go through and easily find the scenes I need.

Well, my question is, what about all the Naruto and One Piece AMV's on this site? You can't even buy those yet.
