I'm ripping FMVs from games. unfortunately you can't compress audio in psmplay for some reason so I'm forced to do this in virtual dub.
for some reason though my audio compression options are really limited.
when I go to compression -> mpeg layer 3 the highest I see is 56kbps, 22Hz stereo. why isn't higher quality available? (yes, I've tried "show all formats")

(this should be in audio help...)
I can't tell you why, but I know that my options look about the same with MPEG-3. Probably it's just not designed to do much encoding. But why are you using that compressor? I would compress the audio with either LameMP3, or leave it uncompressed. Or even get a better audio codec, like Monkey Audio.
I guess I should ask your purpose for compressing the audio.

sorry for placing it in the wrong forum.
it's for distribution on the net. I downloaded lamemp3 and tried to install it but I got an error. now when I go to audio compression in vdub it crashes. how do I uninstall that codec so I can try installing it again? (I've looked and can only seem to find info for uninstalling codecs on windows me/98)

I appologize for not being more specific, I should have pointed you to this: LAME ACM MP3 Codec. There are two versions of Lame, the basic version (LAME MP3 encoder) doesn't work with VDub, you will need the ACM version (LAME ACM MP3 codec). It also comes included with the AMVApp if you plan on using that.disgust wrote:tried to install it but I got an error. now when I go to audio compression in vdub it crashes.
Assuming you've got WinXP, you should be able to remove it through the "Add/Remove Programs" list in the Control Panel. If it doesn't show up there, then go into your System Device Manager and open up "Sound, Video and Game controllers", then click on "Audio Codecs". In the new window that pops up, click the "Properties" tab, highlight the LameMP3 encoder, and click "remove." Hope this gets you back on the right track.
