Having pixelating problems (checked Guides already)

Post by DirectDK » Fri May 12, 2006 12:15 am

Hello. I'm sorry to clutter this forum with this question, but I am trying to make an AMV with vegas and I'm having this problem where the video looks like this in the preview window, and also when I export it.

here's what i mean:

http://www.directdk.com/temp/pixels.mpg

I can't figure out why it's doing this. The source files I'm using are ANBU-AONE divx versions of Naruto:

640x480x12, 23.976 fps, DivX 6.1.1

Please help! Thank you!

You're editing from fansubs. There's your problem right there. Don't edit from lossily encoded files, you will take a major quality hit.

your problem is divx
(i'd suggest taking clips in virtualDub(/mod))
open the clips you want, re-encode with a lossless codec such as Lagartih or Huffyuv.

That won't help too much. The information is already gone, there's no getting it back.

Hey there. Thanks for the tips.

Hmmm, well, I'll try re-encoding them (I was afraid of that), but problem is I'm taking clips from a total of 50 or so episodes. It's gonna take forever (and not too much hd space left).

I do have virtuadub though. I will give it a try. Thanks.

Hey again. Well, I guess I don't mind the quality loss too much. I just really want to avoid those pixels. Is there a reason why it ends up in looking like that? Because, obviously, when I watch them normally those pixels don't show up. That's why I'm confused.

It has to do with how lossy encoding works, especially when you go from one lossy encode to another. Your best bet is to buy R2s.

Or wait for the R1s.

I've had this before and have fixed it. Can't say exactly how I did or how you do it, but this thread might help..

Thanks for the link. I read it through, and it's cool that you ended up fixing it, but could you tell me a bit more? Did you fix it within Vegas (was it a vegas setting) or did you re-encode the divx files into something else?
