File type troubles with DVD burner, please help...
I'm not even sure if this would be the right place to ask but...does anyone know of a program that will burn .mkv to a DVD, not just as a file but as video to watch in a DVD player. I have NERO and Easy CD/DVD creator but neither even reconizes .mkv as a true file type. So I need to find a program that will put .mkv onto a DVD, or a freeware program that will convert .mkv to .avi or .mpeg. please help me... T-T

Because mkv is a newly developed container and your program will not 'recongize' (hense the quotation marks) as it as a 'video' file. Mkv files are like mini DVDs, when you 'crack them open' they contain the footage, audio, and subtitles.VashTheStampeed wrote:I'm not even sure if this would be the right place to ask but...does anyone know of a program that will burn .mkv to a DVD, not just as a file but as video to watch in a DVD player. What you need to do is 'crack open' the mkv file, extract the .avi file and then burn it using Nero DVD.
I have a program that can do that, but its on my home computer. But in the mean time, until I get off work (or until someone beats me to it), google mkv extractor.

You need to manually reencode the video to DVD specs most likely... I've never been able to get anything to work for me on a DVD player, though, so I can't really help with details.

Alright, I found the mkv Extractor Gui. But I don't understand where to go from there. the mkv extractor creates a video file and a sound file (.aac). I thought I would use VirtualDubMod to combine them into a single file after that but VirtualDubMod doesn't recognize .aac. Now this isn't just a one, two, three done thing anymore...I'm so confused?????? I know it's probably just me, I probably screwed up somewhere. Think ya can help me now? T-T

MKV Extractor GUI is a shit. Doesn't work for me, get Alltoavi GUI. Works like a charm.

actually, mkv has been around for a while and no it's not like a mini dvd... MKV is a container that CAN have video audio and subtitles... if you want a "mini dvd" thats more like mp4... cause they can have menus...Ladymercury wrote:Because mkv is a newly developed container and your program will not 'recongize' (hense the quotation marks) as it as a 'video' file. Oh, your welcome. It took me a few days to find a good mkv extractor. It was a bitch x_XVashTheStampeed wrote:Alltoavi GUI is working. thank you so much. I've had these annoying mkv files on my computer for forever with no chances to watch them. with them in avi I can put them to DVD now. Thank you so much Ladymercury! and to everyone else who tried to answer my question.
Oh, well, I always considered them as one because of the way you can rip itPwolf wrote:actually, mkv has been around for a while and no it's not like a mini dvd...
