MP4 problem H.263 codec

Post by Communist_Hitler » Sat May 27, 2006 8:27 am

Heil

How do I tell my goddamned video editors that mp4 files DO have video streams? They keep treating them like audio files!!!!!

Have you tried whispering it softly into their ears over a candlelit dinner?

Most video editing software is not designed to edit video in an mp4 container.

Ideally, you'd re-encode them to another edit-friendly codec like Lagarith or Huffyuv. Or if you have gads of HDD space, uncompressed RGB AVI.
Having trouble playing back videos? I recommend: Image

I would do that, but virtualdub won't open the file. "Can't determine format".

Did you try EO Video?

I can't say for sure, but maybe dBpowerAMP can do it? It's an audio converter but since it treats wmv as audio, maybe you can shift from MP4 to WMV.

Of course, maybe it'll only transcode the audio stream and since you'll have to recompress the already recompressed wmv to avi you'll really lose a lot of quality in the source clip.

Well, actually, that will only work if its an ASP video stream, if it tries to toss an AVC video stream into an avi you will probably have trouble.

The other viable method is to load the MP4 file through AVISynth.
