virtualdubmod help
It's probably something obvious, but how do you decrease the size of a file in that? Audio's not a problem, It's just the video I'm having trouble with.

Very easy to read. But I reccomend looking into x.264 compression, it does wonders for your filesize. At this moment the org does not host guides that cover x.264, but maybe one of the other users can refer you to one (or if you have the patience you can look for one on Google).

(I couldn't quite understand what you were trying to say...what I think you said is that you can't play H.264 videos on divx player...so use divx instead of x.264)
absolutely not.
in terms of video quality and compression it goes like this:
divx < xvid < x.264
huffyuv and lagarith give perfect quality (assuming you don't convert to yuy2), but don't offer much in the way of compression
if you can't see it in your current player, get CCCP
