AVI to MPEG for Editing

Post by BlindNoir » Thu Sep 28, 2006 1:58 pm

I'm using Vegas 6.0 for editing and when I try to import a dvd rip avi only the sound comes up, not the video. I tested some other videos mainly AMVs and all Mpeg amvs work and all AVIs just show the sound no video. What's a good way to rip dvds into MPEG? or change AVI to MPEG? I have used ImTOO dvd ripper to get files to be MPEG but the quality is very pixelated.

The problem isn't that they're avis--avis work fine. You're probably using DivX or XviD encoded video, which Vegas (along with many other programs) can't handle.

Try reading the EADFAG, specifically the part that starts at 'Ripping DVD footage'. You'll want to encode your files using Huffy or Lagarith, and probably only the specific clips you want to use unless you have a lot of disc space (and I do mean a lot--these codecs can easily run 4-5 gigs an episode).
