You should sell plushies, magazines, and all sorts of stuff.

Stuff that you cannot get in america!!
There are so many things wrong with this post, it's not even funny.

1) This is a information depository first and a place to download second, and videos that aren't hosted here aren't taking up any bandwidth!!! why get rid of them?
2) I can probably name at least 30 retail outlet stores that sell magazines and/or plushies as well as anime.
3) I think it's safe to say that "geek" is a term that would apply to a vast majority of the members here... "no geeky stuff" would be a dumb stance for an AMV store to have...

I don't think they'd have to be very high considering the amount of members we already have. I don't pretend to know the ORG's finances, but a required fee of about $1 a year would generate close to $400,000 annually. It seems like a simple and easy way to do it if you ask me.

The two things I really don't like about the ideas I've noticed are PayPal and Ads. I don't trust either of them.

And there's my two cents.
There's a few problems with this... Phades idea of this site was a FREE place to download AMVs. Charging $1 per person per year would cause over 7/8 of the people to not come here. Yeah, it's $400,000 a year, but it goes against what Phade wants. Donations are enough, and besides, some people are nice enough to donate entire servers to the cause rather than Phade having to spend money on a new server, which is quite a bit of money...
Nicely put, Brsrk. Also, Mister "gangstaj8", What about the people such as me who CAN NOT pay. I get no money flow, I'm underage (fourteen) and I just barely found A job that I still need to wait to see if they'll even hier me! So tell me now..How will A fourteen year old pay when he doesn't even make A singel cent, And never has..Hmm..Wow..You got yourself A damn good problem there considering A majority of .Org is in the same situation as me!

Also..Your comment about paypal gave me the urge to kill. Paypal is probably one of the most trustable things on the internet! Have you ever used paypal? I didn't think so, I've seen it used various times, And people I know say they've NEVER had one problem with paypal. My mother, And brother, And father and entier family has used it without ever having one problem, Only problems have been on the side of the company they were buying from..Notice how I used Were. another thing is, if you somehow trust putting money in A letter, Then sticking that letter in A MAILBOX (Probably one of the most unsafest things in the world for money) then using paypal...You need to be slaped

First off, No offense was ment to anyone working at .Org with this post, I love the site and you guys are awsome for keeping it free, I plan on donating once I have A job, And get some money to donate with, Secondly, I fully support the idea of adding paypal, Anyone who dosen't should take A look at the state of the world right now, And see if they REALLY trust putting money in thier mailbox, And the fact that there might be a mistaken delivery, And some other guy gets the money. Once again, No offence ment, And, Sorry for draging this out.

Actually paypal is quite a shady company and many, MANY people have problems with them. Just do a little research and you should clearly see... Paypal has caused trouble for so many people its not funny. I am actually currently locked out of my own paypal account, and have gotten no email responses from them. My next step will have to be to call them directly, but from what horror stories I've heard, I fully expect to never see the funds that were in my account again (thankfully i only had a few bucks in it).

Paypal is probably one of the most trustable things on the internet!
PayPal has a long and growing trail of abuses. The most recent one is PayPal's freezing of something-awful forum member donations for Hurricane Katrina victims, and you can find out more about it with a simple Google search for PayPal.

You can find more anecdotes at http://www.aboutpaypal.org/. They are, unfortunately, unsigned, but at least they have no less validity than your tirade.

One item of note that turns many people, including me, off to using PayPal:

THEY HAVE NO ACCOUNTABILITY. PayPal is basically free to freeze and hold funds when they feel like it, and you can't do a damn thing about it, besides complain to them. See section 11 of their user agreement. Item vii of their policy for closing accounts and limiting account access further reflects this: they can freeze your account if they think you're committing fraud by their guidelines. Not by any standard, published guidelines. Theirs.

Paypal isn't as secure as you think it is either. My dad was checking mail one day, noticed an email from payPal saying there was going to be another bank account added to the site. Stupidly enough, he clicked the link without checking the URL first, and had another bank account added to his account. He called PayPal, emailed them and they removed it. I only used PayPal to pay my EVE Online bill, but I don't play that anymore, so I currently have no more use for PayPal.

Check in the mail is still probably the best.

Plushies are geeky. :? Unless it's like a plushie of Leatherface. That's hardcore.

When paypal freezes your account, is that actually effecting your bank account, or just the money you have in a paypal account?

I'm not sure how, technically, we'd pull that off....
Use Lighty:
http://www.lighttpd.org/

Create two download aliases, one for donators and one for those who don't donate. Cap the non-donators to 20KB/sec. That should work seamlessly in place of the "pancake" download you have now and provide what you need.
