Rather poor example as the people who were getting anal and pissy over ErMaC winning VCA were the General AMV crowd. The other AMV creators who felt looked over and were jealous of ErMaC's success. Probably some OT people in there too.

I dunno, if anyone would be a mod I think AD would as you make good AMVs, help-out, write guides and have a cool head about you. I think people still resented not being a mod, if you were visible or not. My point it's easier to be pissed off @ "Mod 467" than it would be @ AD.

Pai>> Look at Tab :p He's madddd RAWR. Anyways, I don't think the friends should really have to talk to you or be friends with you. It doesn't matter if my friends are your friends. Being able to make judgements based on action and not character is more vital in admin/mod. Just because someone isn't your friend or doesn't understand your view point. Or maybe you don't like their view point, is no reason to exclude.

And that's kind of what this thread feels like. It's a "now that the losers are gone we can come out and show ourselves, thankgod those people are gone". Even if you don't mean to, that's how this action feels. This would have been much more effective when there were more members who visited the board that were concerned over this. Maybe that's why you chose now ? Because no one cares, everything has been squared away in a tidy package? It hasn't I still have feelings over the exclusion of half the forum and I think alot of people do, just most of those people have moved on and gone away. And only then have you come out and said "finally here I am, look at me I am an ADMIN!!!".

As for admin selection, the only real advantage to knowing Phade in person is the possibility that he could kick your ass if you did something wrong. But AD is over the ocean and Pai you're in VA. He can't physically kick your ass much at all. Maybe it's trust? But does trust really have alot to do with it. I mean if someone does dedicate themselves to the community and the site it shows they care about it. I don't think they should care about Phade's wife making delicious brownies or exactly where he lives.

On most websites mod selection is based on community loyalty rather than if you know the site owner or not. Usually when talking to Phade on AIM he is busy or up to other things. I doubt he would want to tell the couple hundred plus people who visit the forum about his entire life story. I doubt he'd want everyone on the website trying to find out his wifes brownie recipe. Also he has sorta an idol god status and many may fear that he'll zap them with his laser eyes :p.

While Phade works hard on the site, I don't see him around the forums interacting with the users often. It's awesome he puts alot of work, but he's no Serpico it seems like, he's not down with the street. And if he's lurking around all this time reading about the community from his little glass box it's almost Hugh Heffnerish in him not communicating. I can see him up his suite on the top floor of AMV enterprises looking at the hundred web monitors, monitoring every AMV entered into the DB. His three foot beard he strokes with his fingers that have 5" nails as he sips from a bottle of condine O_O. Ok :p lol gettng off-track here.

Anyways... A sticky announcing who the mods were or a news post or something would be fine. But people coming in and patting you guys on the back about it, I just don't like that. There is no need for a thread like this especially with the past still rather fresh in peoples minds.

I like the site 'cuz I like helping people and AMVs. I also liked the people who came here and this felt sorta like dancing on the ashes of an older era. :p

People care who the admins are?

Funny. I care more what they do than who they are.

That's pretty much exactly what his original post was...an announcement. Go back and read it.
klinky wrote:But people coming in and patting you guys on the back about it, I just don't like that.
Well, if that happens, that's not his fault. Again, read his original post...there's absolutely nothing about asking for a "warm welcome" or anything. If people want to welcome him and pat him on the back, that's their prerogative, not his...and if you read the subsequent posts, he does nothing to encourage this. All he does is clarify his role on the site, and briefly touch on his future plans as an admin.

This perception of him throwing himself a welcome party is all in your head.
I have no idea how to use this new forum.

Um.. and?

I never said anything about OT posters in particular, I was talking about general feelings on the site. The distinction between general amv posters and OT posters is yours not mine.

Hear, Hear.being an Admin/mod on a large forum is hard... very hard.
I'm the second admin on the shoujo-ai heavens, and while it is not large (600+ members) it is still difficult to moderate it all. even with the entire community looking out for bad posts and helping the mods and admins.
HungryCrackPot wrote:I know that if I had a forum, I wouldnt even reveal that I was the Admin, just to see what people REALLY acted like when they thought that no one was watching.
interesting idea there :P
can't see it working (creator is ALWAYS admin) but it is interesting...

AD> I made the distinction because I am wondering why all of sudden, now it's ok to come out and tell everyone you're an Admin? Because ofcourse if you had done it before everone would have been angsty jealous of it.

Kuso>> I should have said a *locked* sticky.

VegettoEX>> I am not that impressed with the way modding was done around here most of the time. In the video help forum flame-wars were never shutdown properly. Someone asking about fansubs or where to download illegal anime were let to ramble on for 9 - 10 pages at a time. One post that should have been in Video Help was in General AMV for about two weeks, ON THE FIRST PAGE.

And knowing who the admins are brings along more respect to the people and I don't think as many people would have tried to insight the Mods if they had known who they were.

But OT was a jungle and I think it would be hard to maintain. I don't think alot of effort was put into maintaining it really. The rules were not laid-down very often. Way-OT and OT blended more often than not. Anyways, this is about mods, not times past :p.

Anyhow, this thread just doesn't do much good in my opinon mainly since:

1) Seems to have come around only after certain people have gone away.
2) Doesn't really reveal any *new* information.
3) Other admins will remain hidden and thus this seems more like a vanity thing than an actual informational post. It's like posting "AD & Paizuri have decided to let the minions know they are admins". Instead of something along the lines of "These are the admins of the site, if you have any quesitons feel free to talk to them". And it kinda pisses me off that other people are going to hide, it's AM-FUCKIN-Vs people, no one is gonna blow up for damn car over you deleting their post. <--temper temper...

I'd just lock the thread.. yeah that's what I'd do :p. You are an admin after all... :p Do it!!!>_<

To address klinky's points:

1) I'm not really sure which "certain" people have gone away since a lot of people that posted frequently in the OT sections still log on. They may not be posting, but they do appear to still read threads. They also continue to use the catalog portion of the site and download AMVs which is fine since that, and not the forum, is the important part of this site.

2) Some people didn't know I was a forum admin. Now they do. That seems like new information to me. Also, as was stated in AD's introductory post, there is a distinction between regular moderators and forum admins and I have not always been a forum admin.

Which leads into #3...

3) At the time of this post, there are no hidden site or forum admins anymore. I revealed myself because now that I have the added power to do so, I feel pretty silly banning someone or adding new sections to the forum and then asking Phade or AD to talk about it. If you get a PM from me and you normally don't, chances are it won't be about happy things. And about the still-hidden moderators, you would think that no one would blow up their damn cars and other things but I know AMV creators who HAVE been stalked before, so while I don't think it's a major threat, it's better to be safe than sorry.

---

In response to klinky's reply to VegettoEX (but also to everyone in general):

No one is perfect. The administration is still just as human as everyone else. But if you're not happy about the job the moderators and forum admins are doing, you can still help out. That's what the Mod Drop Box is for. Several helpful people DO use it to report bad threads and videos and their efforts are greatly appreciated.

Anyways, I don't think there is any need to lock this thread. I appreciate that you at least had the balls to post your opinions on these matters and spent the time and thought to elaborate on them as opposed to posting useless one-liners that neither resolve anything nor shed light on the problems that you see.

=====

So to summarize this thread so people don't misunderstand:

Phade, AD, and I are the forum admins here. If you have any questions feel free to talk to us.
My favorite video: Grilled Steak Trigun I LOVE THE COPS! Rargh!
I ain't 2 proud 2 beg! haha school rumble is great
