Opinions are also feedback solely for the editor. They open up no real conversation for just viewers. Besides, the editor can only choose two of the opinions to be public. Compared to the comment system that youtube has, where viewers can leave comments for other viewers, the closest thing we have on this site, is the announcement forum.

Well, unless the viewer him/herself leaves an opinion; then s/he can view all of the others for that video...JaddziaDax wrote:Opinions are also feedback solely for the editor. They open up no real conversation for just viewers. Besides, the editor can only choose two of the opinions to be public.
But yes, you can't have a conversation between viewers that way.

Agreed, bad thing? (hope I got what you meant right)BasharOfTheAges wrote:And this is a bad thing?Scintilla wrote:Well, unless the viewer him/herself leaves an opinion; then s/he can view all of the others for that video...JaddziaDax wrote:Opinions are also feedback solely for the editor. I dunno about anyone else, but I like my opinions being strictly for me. That's why I ask for opinions, to get some tips, and more indepth critisism on my amvs. If I just wanted random comments, I'd post it on youtube. I don't personally want all that random comments, and then comment fights, and all the junk that comes with having it open to all viewers. Nor do I want ratings. I just generally am here because I don't have to have all that random bashing that youtube invites :3
I do think playists would be nice, or finding other ways for the viewer to enjoy. Like if you wanted to have ratings, but the editor could turn it off? Or if there was a way to make the annoucement thread more open? So if viewers wanted to post comments there they could, but yeah.. dunno.
Sorry ^^

erps .. I can see one flaw in that argument; levels of qualification!
( who is qualified to state fact over opinion on someones work? )
and
( who has the right to strike-up a conversation with minors? do you know how old they are; I don't!!)

Re: State of the Org - 10-13-10
I agree if we want public criticism we have announcement threads or Op exchange for that. Unfortunately this may not satisfy some of our more 'vain' users, but... otherwise a 'public posting' session would a) turn into a ROAST or b) turn into what you get on youtube 'this video was cool!' I mean just look at our announcement threads?
slightly OT, why do ppl complain so much about announcement threads turning into judgements but not op exchange??

The first one is decided by the person getting the op
The second one is only a problem in Canada

Re: State of the Org - 10-13-10
I think the answer here is because op exchange is SPECIFICALLY saying 'if/ when you have a strong opinion about my video put it on my profile page and I'll do the same for you!' they never leave it out in the open on the public forum. I think this is what we need for announcement threads. I mean it'd be nice if everyone just had thicker skin, but... to be more 'inviting' I think we need to make it EASIER to link announcement threads to video profiles such as op exchange threads are. The best way I can see doing this is by pushing the UNDERSTANDING, like how it is understood in op exchange, you leave your op in the video profile. This is a very LOOSE answer (as not everybody follows/ knows the rules.. in fact at our age, not many of us do :/), but... at least I've proposed (hopefully) a clearer understanding to the problem.Knowname wrote:slightly OT, why do ppl complain so much about announcement threads turning into judgements but not op exchange??
I'm not sure if the site as a whole needs to change really, just the way announcements are made. There is also the 'problem' noobs (and general comp-u-tards who don't know how to ftp...) have about uploading videos. But I think these are the only two main issues. Anything else would compromise the original focus of the site.

Its not about levels of qualification though.. its what Knowname saidpost-it wrote: erps .. I can see one flaw in that argument; levels of qualification!
The annoucement thread is already there for the "this is cool video", why not keep it there? Why do we have to bring it and post it all over our videos? Just find a way to make the annoucement thread more viewable for others, or just have playist in which you don't have to post all a million comments all over you know? Though if comments did come avaliable on videos I honestly would have it removed, or I would sit there and remove all comments ^^" because again if I wanted a "showcase of this is awesome" id go to youtube :3 but dunno just my opinion, I generally like things to be clean and organized (off topic) so it sort of follows me everything D:Knowname wrote: a) turn into a ROAST or b) turn into what you get on youtube 'this video was cool!'
