Site FAQ - Web Site

Post by Kireblue » Tue Mar 22, 2016 7:58 pm

Q: Why should I register? Is there a cost?

Registering will make you a member of the site. Non-members can still view the database, and download both direct and indirect videos, but local video downloads are available only once you register. As soon as you become a member, you will also be able to have your videos listed in the database and upload videos that you’ve made to the local server. Members also get a few other neat things such as the ability to participate in the Viewer’s Choice Awards, the forums, and much more. Signing up is free, and donations are not required for membership (although it is of course appreciated and will help us fund things like server costs and site maintenance).

Q: How do I play the videos that I downloaded from this site; What is the best Codec?

Every creator uses different settings when rendering and encoding their AMVs, and some videos may require higher computer specifications than others to be played properly. But for the most part, downloading the Combined Community Codec Pack should be sufficient enough to play whatever video file that you encounter on the site. That pack also includes Media Payer Classic, which is an excellent media player that can play a wide variety of files and formats.

More information about video playback can be found here.

Q: I made a AMV that uses hentai and could be considered pornography. Can I enter it into the catalog?

Yes. The goal and overall purpose of the catalog is to be a comprehensive database of ALL AMVs. However, since there are no direct age restrictions for downloads, you may not upload it to the local server. If the video is available to stream or download on another site, you may either provide a indirect link to it, or only provide the link to those who contact you and specifically request the video. You as the video creator are directly responsible for appropriate age screening.

Q: How do I catalog and upload videos to this site?

To catalog a video, go to the “Enter New Video” page located in the “Editors” dropdown menu located on the left side column of the main site. Once you follow the steps listed on the page and enter all the required information, you will then be able to “request upload permission” by going the the “Upload A Video” page that's also located in the “Editors” dropdown menu. Once you do this, you will have the option to either use the site's web uploader or to upload your video through an FTP client with the information that will be displayed after you request upload permission.

Information specifically on how to use the web uploader can be found here.
Instructions on how to upload videos using an FTP client can be found here.

Q: I accidentally entered a video into the catalog twice. How do I remove the extra entry?

To remove a video entry, click on the “Request Deletion of Bad Video Entry” link located at the bottom of the “Edit Video Info” page located in the “Editors” dropdown menu located on the left side column of the main site. This should only used to remove duplicate entries, not for videos you don't like anymore.
