Sailor Earth is dead.

It all seemed so sudden, actually. Now that it's happened...well,
we're all in shock. Well, Ami's in shock; she thought Earth would last
longer. Everyone else is pretty happy, for now.

Just a typical youma battle, it was. Luna grabbed me just when I
was about to go inside the ice cream parlor and pointed it out to me.
Yep, typical three meter tall baddie, sucking energy as usual. I mean,
you'd think these guys would have something better to do, but anyway,
minna henshin yo and so forth.

So, the other senshi show up as usual, we're doing our duty, and
suddenly a streak of light comes from the sky, stunning the youma. We
look up, and Jupiter asks:

"Who's there?"

"The blue jewel twinkling in the heavens. The spark of light at
the center of the hearts of evil. The lonely star on its course through
destiny. For love and topsoil, I am the graceful Sailor Earth! Tsuchi ni
kawatte, oshioki yo!"

"Fuck," said Mars lightly. I couldn't agree with her more; it was
the third Sailor Earth we'd had that week. And this one didn't even look
cute. Moss-green hair may fit into some twisted earth motif, but as
hair...ugh. And her fuku did *not* match. If there's one thing we've
learned through all this, it's that some people just shouldn't be senshi.

Sailor Venus pulled a small card from pocketspace and started
reading it. "What?" she asked flatly. "Er, I mean, nani?"

The rest of us had little business cards as well. By this time,
though, we hardly needed them. It's not like it ever goes any
differently. That's what I can't stand about the powers that be. No
originality.

"Sailor Earth?" I asked, with about as much emotion as a sedated
computer. "Luna, you never told us about her."

"Mercury: She must be our new ally," said Mercury, yawning. She
pulled out a book and started leafing through it.

Sailor Mars was daydreaming, and Jupiter had to nudge her in the
side. "Oh, gomen. Um...I don't trust him/her. I'm getting bad
vibes. Stay away from him/her, Sailor Moon. Oh, I shoulda put an
exclaimation mark...aw screw it."

The Sailor Earth du jour looked totally nonplussed at this.
"Whaddaya mean? I'm Sailor Earth!"

"Yes," I said, "in fact you're the 84th goddamn Sailor Earth we've
had in the past three years, so pardon if we don't jump up and down and
throw a bloody parade for you, you freak!"

She looked a bit hurt at that, and I felt a bit guilty. It's not
like me to lash out like that. So I apologized.

"I'm sorry, Sailor Earth. But the fanfic writers...er, powers
that be...have been giving me a hard time lately, and I guess I had to
vent a little."

"It's okay," said Earth. She leapt down and gave me a hug. "I
won't hold it against you."

Just for a moment there, I felt a bond to this perky, smart,
cute, strong, graceful, elegant, probable North American exchange student
actually reincarnated from the Moon Kingdom who happened to be a senshi.
Maybe *this* time she'd hang around.

"SHINE!!!" The youma crashed down on us both and...well, from
then on it was business as usual. We tried to help (well, *some* of us
did, but you know, after watching 84 wannabe sailors get stomped, you
start not caring anymore, y'know?), but it was no use. By the time I
managed to pull a Starlight Honeymoon Therapy Kiss, it was too late.

And so Sailor Earth died. Terrible, of course. But when your
world is subject to invasion by psychotic egomaniacal fanfic writers at
any moment, you have to defend yourself.

Until the next Sailor Earth arrives.

This predates Princess Myu by about ten years. It was written in 1998 by a friend of mine, LeVar Bouyer. I just felt it appropriate to share.
