The more important bit is that TEKnician is a moron and nothing he wrote in this thread is relevant.
More to the topic at hand, thank you for pointing out the videos that shouldn't have been there, the site has some safegaurds in place, but we need the occasional sweep of the system by self-styled rules lawyers looking for validation.

Not too sure... but probably yes, depends on how the thing is organized.gote wrote:if avatar's animation was done in japan would it be allowed here?
No, afro samurai is based on a manga to begin with.isn't that the case with afro samurai?
You could rather pull out Animatrix and some Studio 4°C stuff as examples, though...

Re: I would like to make a case for Avatar to be included
Hahah, I gotcha for real!
Nope, it's not even the case with those, actually, though they are closer examples that often get pulled off in these occasions. Animatrix as well as various other 4°C "grey" zone things were coproduced, whereas Avatar was only outsourced at most.

Okay, okay, I'm sorry. How 'bout I post something relevant then?
*puts on serious face*
Point Number 1:
In the org FAQ:TheDevian wrote:What constitutes an "Anime" as far as this site is concerned?
Point Number 2:What kind of videos can I put on the database?
The simple answer is ‘anime music videos that you have made’. If the source footage is entirely made up of non-anime sources, then it doesn't belong here. ‘Anime’ here is essentially defined as Japanese animation, including things like cutscenes from Final Fantasy games and so on. Non-Japanese animation and non-animated source are not allowed although we are lenient with anime-inspired original animated or drawn creations that the members have made.
Any videos that break any of the site rules (including but not limited to abuse of other members) are not allowed. Videos that contain pornographic footage of any kind cannot have a direct download link on the database. All such videos should be indirect and have an advisory warning before downloading the video. Further information about requirements can be read on the "Enter a New Video" page.
If you are not sure whether your video meets these criteria, do not enter the video. Instead ask in the forums (in Site Help), giving a rough account of what your video contains. The administration withhold the right to remove any videos deemed inappropriate for this site.
Really? REALLY?...TheDevian wrote:many of the names in the credits are also Japanese.
Point Number 3:
Hell, have you EVEN SEEN THIS in the General Discussion thread? Just do it anyways and post it there! I'D EVEN WATCH IT TOO! I LOVE AVATAR!TheDevian wrote:I have been contemplating making a video for this show, but if Youtube is my only real option to display it, I am not sure I want to go through the trouble of making one.
Dun get me wrong, its not like I was going on a rant or anything. I just made that brief comment at the beginning because I didn't feel the need to have a discussion topic for it.
TRUE ENOUGH. This WAS their best attempt to date. But I really hate Nickelodeon, period.TheDevian wrote:Avatar actually captures the style and feel of a real anime. Other than having been in English first, it is more 'Anime' than any other attempt made in the west

Re: I would like to make a case for Avatar to be included
You could say it was outsourced (like so many others for most of my life anyway) but unlike many of them, the creators actually went there to work with the studio, instead of just sending examples. It really can't be compared to the normal American fare, even the ones called 'anime inspired'.
The problem is the line gets thinner every day. Things like Avatar, Puffy Ami Yumi, Dragon Age movie [being made in Japan but based on an American game, produced by an American company in a Japanese studio, in the style of the original art, but in Japanese, in conjunction with an American dubbing company...], South Park's 'Good Times with Weapons' episode, (could even include things like G-Force in the 'fine line' category), so many fine lines and people just walking all over it (or maybe we should say the line got so wide that all these people can now drive on it).
All I meant was there were more Japanese names on the cast than A&S or CL (especially CL, at least A&S is Asian), but since that has been fixed, it is now irrelevant. But I admit that 'many' was an exaggeration, but it is still more than either of the others. And like I also said it just bothered me that those two seemed to be ok when Avatar was not (and that was the real issue in question, the rest just being window dressing). The line might still be fuzzy on some, but this is now clear. I understood what the rules had said (even if dyslexia makes it hard to read for me, I poured over that part a few times), but it had seemed like exceptions had been made, so I wanted to make the case for Avatar, if that had been true, but since they were here in error that whole point is moot. & no, I hadn't seen the other post, I don't do forums much, I don't usually do well on them, rather antisocial and all (and I take things too personally sometimes, and things can get heated too easily), lol. I joined in 2001 (I was surprised too), and this thread at least doubled my total posts, it should show how strongly I felt about it though.
I used to love Nick, back in the days of 'Danger Mouse', 'Inspector Gadget', 'You can't do that on TV' and such (yeah I know, my age is showing, we had it even before Mtv, back when Mtv was new, ...and showed videos, was probably the first cable channel I ever watched, wow that was a long time ago), I stopped watching it in general a long time ago, but other than paying for the show to be made, and being willing to give the guys a chance, they had little to do with it, so even if I didn't like them I wouldn't hold it against the show (who pays for it shouldn't really be a huge factor, the inspiration for it on the other hand was almost entirely anime, and how true they held to it is what matters to me, in comparison the others just borrowed elements from it, Avatar became it, very zen hehe). ;}
I may make something one day (working on a couple more Ranma ones atm, one is almost finished), if I think of a concept, but it would also require a host, maybe one day I will get my server up and running, with a bit more research into Ubuntu, in the meantime, this is what I have. But now that the issue has been clarified, that case is closed for now, and any other discussion on that part is moot. Unless we want to discuss the line, and what crosses what where and when, which can always be entertaining...
Thanks again for your time and patience, and apologies to anyone I offended (I'm sure there had to be somebody ;3), that was never my intention (and I take no offense, was just trying to keep the main part of the discussion to my main point, comparing it to others that had "made it" or so I thought, & generally I agree, our working def of 'anime' is Japanese origin only, but its getting harder to tell all the time), and for the double posts, wish I could have edited instead, gomen.
sorry ahead of time, but I thought this was funny, I mean this as a joke and for humorous intent only, ty.
and hey, while we are at it, pretend this is a temporary sig.

and what would THEY know about it? (again, sorry, I had to say it.... I tried to resist )...we'd have to allow Spongebob Squarepants because the Japanese call it anime.

Re: I would like to make a case for Avatar to be included
Yes, the line is thin. And it gets considered on a case by case basis depending on who did what and how. Avatar just doesn't cross the line enough to be considered anime, that's about it. I'll prolly be counting the Dragon Age movie as anime, however, as the actual direction of the movie is being done by the japs.TheDevian wrote:The problem is the line gets thinner every day. Re: I would like to make a case for Avatar to be included
The difference being this is an American site, not a Japanese site. Here in America we make a distinction between what we consider "Cartoon" and "Anime".TheDevian wrote:sorry ahead of time, but I thought this was funny, I mean this as a joke and for humorous intent only, ty.and what would THEY know about it? Personally I'm not against the inclusion of Avatar, and it's about as blurry (style-wise) as the line gets..
Blurry Lines I've seen allowed:
Batman: Gothic Knight
and
Yogurting Intro

Re: I would like to make a case for Avatar to be included
Batman: Gotham Knight is a regular anime and as such is allowed.
Any single source Yogurting AMV should be deleted, as it's not an anime source.
Those are not blurry at all. It's just faulty premise in the functionality of the site, people.
