It's not the quality, but the ethics of the use of DLed footage that I'm most concerned about.Summanaro wrote:Well I have some d'ld footage that's actually good quality.
I view the Carrot and Donut as powerful tools to hammer home the fact that edittors should be using legally acquired footage if they want to upload their videos onto what is an essentially a free hosting service.

You have to have atleast 5 votes to get on the star scale anyway. So yeah, they all have been voted upon.Summanaro wrote:Well I have some d'ld footage that's actually good quality. I think videos on the carrot should be removed because of their ratings on the star scale, I mean, all those vids in the back have either not been voted upon or just really suck.
Besides, that thing is fucked. Your video jumps up and down in the beginning, it'd be pretty pointless to do that.

Maybe we could have a list of poor quallity videos (I mean really really poor quallity, with clips of readilly available anime with logos like the AS or CN logo) that are going to be purged. Have 10 videos a week put on the list and allow the org users to vote on their worthyness. If they don't get enough votes....Adios.

Well, I'd hate to see how that idea would be abused by the people who hate certain anime vids. But yes, I'd back it and vote responsibly. The only problem is that I doubt it would free up much space. A majority of the vids fitting that description are 7mb rm files.
If you cut out everything that breaks the 'no downloaded footage' rule, you'll clear up a lot more space. Most of the 'illegal' high quality download vids are a lot larger than the ones that would be cut out by this voting style. So, if the main goal is to save space and promote the 'downloaded = illegal' rule, then you'd need to do it whole-heartedly, a clean sweep. Still, the voting idea would be a start.

Just to let you know... I've seen great clips with "illegal" footage. The footage used by many new-bee rippers are of poorer quality than that of the downloaded files. Still the size and duration are average indicators to know the "quality" of the video output. (not the AMV.. duh!)
BUT!!, a beautifuly made video of 23 mb compared to an over-done bitrate monster? I choose the former one. Isn't it an idea to come up with a maximum of mb's per minute of video? Stairway to heaven is probably 80 mb but a music video of three minutes in 80mb? (like my first, that was wrongly bitrated..)
Don't bann to quick, it would cause to much bad blood to potentially great workers...... Still you could mail the users when they are put on a black-list, and give them a chance to act accordingly....

a demonstration...
I made the statement that downloaded quality could make great video's. I searched my dir for an example and came up with the classic:
William Tell Overture (AMV).mpg. (name = Caffine Encopium (Kevin Caldwell))
This is one of the best timed AMV's with not THE best output quality. Still it's great... How many times haven't you read that someone used v-dub with logo-wiper, and produced great work. This in contrast with really bad real time tv-captures from the cartoon-network...
