And yet he already wants to force people into leaving ops, presumably because he doesn't think he gets enough. He's gonna fit in well here, I can tell.

...with all due respect, isn't "instrumental" a genre of music and not a style of video? I would think a video using an instrumental song could be dramatic, romantic, etc.

...also don't get how "Sentimental" is different from a subset of drama or romance. Oh well, that's why I'm a pain in the ass and not a mod. ^_^;

With instrumental videos there are no lyrics that the video must conform to. Thus it results in a different type of AMV, one where the video must be driven solely on the creativity of the creator, rather than by the lyrics.

Well, just about any type of music genre can have pieces of music that are instrumental, so in and of itself it's not what I'd consider a genre.

Not that I should continue this, but I'm going to. The original author has other posts indicating he's made vids. A supersearch on the titles of what he's asked for ops on provides the <a href="http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members ... profile he posts his vids under. Thus I have just proved three things. First off that chances are he wants opinions on his vids and figures forcing people into it is the way to go. Second off that when bored I get way to anal if I'm actually looking shit like this up.

Although you have point, the whining/threatening/begging for ops banners may have been an influence on him.

Well put it this way, when the VCAs happen after new year there are going to be over 20,000 qualifying videos. Every year there have been best sentimental and best instrumental categories...

I for one would rather search through a list of 1,000 than a list of 20,000.

Not to cause trouble, but is there any chance you can jury-rig a filter system for the 'lip sync' and 'best effects' categories as well? Just something that will go through and discount the vids that don't have those options marked (on the link of 'all qualifying vids' you have with the VCA's) would help cut back a lot. And like you said, no one wants to search through every single vid on the site when you could just look at the ones that *have* lip sync or effects. "^_^"

/if neither of those categories gets used this year then it's not necessary, but I fully expect a 'best effects' category if not the lip sync one

Did we not do that last year?

Generally any categories that we can filter, we do.

No videos actually get disqualified for individual categories, as it happens, it's just that when you click a category for voting there will be a pre-filtered list which you can un-filter if you like.

I don't actually remember. I don't think I voted for the effects section last year. :?

That's what I remembered, the filtered list - very useful. But again, I don't remember finding anything that said which were 'effects' vids and which weren't, just the 11 or so categories we'd always had (I think this was pre-Trailer).

If there's going to be a 'search by effects' option, though, then thanks. ^_^ That should make it easy to participate in the nomination for that category. And sorry if I missed it last year, if it was set up back then.

I've made an instrumental video. And I have no clue what you're babbling about amidst all the spooge.

I have no creativity, and I made one. OMG WHAT HAPPEN. THIS SHOULD NOT BE! Neither was it a groundbreaking brain-exploding tower of originality. It was a video without lyrics. The end.

Besides, nobody "must conform" to the lyrics in a song with lyrics, either.

Funny how you're making up elaborate explanations when the actual explanation already makes sense and is fairly simple. That's life, I guess. Thanks for the moment of entertainment, self-importance is so funny. ;)
