Question on whether or not I can post this video here?

Post by Vegechan » Sun Mar 11, 2007 1:41 am

I looked at the site FAQ, and according to its definition I shouldn't. However, I did a search to see what else is on up there, and saw some similar things on a search. So, decided, why not? And to ask.

I created a MV to the audio soundtrack of the 2nd 300 trailer, to Halo 2, Halo 3, and Halo Wars trailer footage. I posted it on YouTube.com but saw a huge decrease in quality, and would like to host it somewhere. My first thought was a-m-v.org.

If you'd like to see the video here's a link:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IRcZHCXWVLE

This is the one I'd like to post. It's the second version, and attempt for higher quality. The first one is here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v0ndCPELJQU

The one I'd like to post is the first one, because it's higher quality and the timing has had some touch ups. However, most people have seen the lower quality one and most comments and ratings are there.

I'd like to get into AMV making, so this won't be my last AMV I post here. I have a few ideas that I'm going to toy around with, however would like to know if this would be welcome here, or would it be taken down.

Thanks in advance.

Halo isn't anime...

Fair enough. I asked because I saw one or two "Halo tributes." I know sometimes websites expand further than their original intention into similar areas. I also know many people create similar music videos for games, just as they do for anime. So I thought perhaps a-m-v.org has started to accept video game music videos as well. Just thought I'd ask.

Thanks for your help though. I'll see if I can find some other outlet other than rapidshare.

We accept games that have "anime-like" footage and were made by Japanese companies for Japanese consumption (think the final fantasy games). I haven't seen Halo, but if it's a US game or a game without anime-style cut scenes, it doesn't fit here.

Nope, it's American made and has nothing even remotely anime like in it. Generally it's best to go by the character forms. In anime the eyes are normally over exaggerated and meant to convey all the emotion while the mouth and nose are under exaggerated so that more focus is on the eyes. That's generally the biggest defining characteristic of an anime...although I know some people are quick to try and classify anime as simply being a product of Japan...which really is becoming more and more silly as many production companies are more global than they are invested in any one country with investors and stock holders from all across the globe. Really to say that an anime is simply a product of Japan is just retarded at best. I mean if a Japanese production company hires Chinese artists to produce the majority of the work, is it still anime by that definition? Or what if an American company hires Japanese animators and artists? What on earth does the physical location have to do with the art? Yeah, NOTHING.

Yep. Got it. Thanks.

Like I said, I just wanted to see if a-m-v.org has expanded to be more than just anime music videos. I know that may seem silly at first, but there are various organizations that name themselves one thing and end up expanding beyond their original intention and keep their name just because it would be a hassle to do other wise.

Anime and Video games have a lot of the same fans. I know there are various people who create music videos to games that have nothing to do with Japanese culture or anime at all. I was just wondering if this website has gone beyond the original "anime only" idea and started accepting other music videos that would possibly appeal to that particular fan base.

I know very well that Halo has nothing to do with anime. That's obvious. Very obvious. So obvious it goes without saying. However, I've seen other "Halo tributes" on the site, and wanted to know if the site has indeed gone past the "anime only" mentality and accepted other things. That's all. Now that I know it's still "anime only" then I'll see if there are other outlets to bring this video to.

Thanks for being nice about it though.

Drop a link to the vids in the Moderator Drop box and they'll be deleted. If they use anime mixed with the Halo footage, they're fine (we have a 60% anime policy for mixed vids). If they're just using that game, they aren't supposed to be here.

im not sure but i think you can get away with making a catalogue entry and an external link - but yeah you wouldn't be able to host the file on the org.

The definition of 'anime' and 'AMV' (or at least the definition for the purposes of this site): http://www.animemusicvideos.org/phpBB/v ... hp?t=63288

Games are a fuzzy issue, but let me make it easy in the case of Halo.

Microsoft = NOT a Japanese company.
Bungie = NOT a Japanese game studio.
Halo = NOT resembling anime in style.

To sum up, Halo is not anime. It is not anime-style. It is not related to anime at all*.

The video game music videos available here are usually related to or derived from existing anime (the .hack// series, most manga-derived anime like the Dragon Ball series, Naruto, One Piece, et al.), have spawned anime (Kanon, Air, Higurashi no Naku Koro ni, Sakura Wars, et al.), or the FMVs are anime in style or design (Xenogears, Final Fantasy series, et al.).

*Just to be clear, I know that a Halo Spartan appears in Dead or Alive 4 for the Xbox 360. DOA4, while classified as anime on this site, AFAIK, does not have cinematics of the Spartan. You shouldn't assume that DOA4 = anime, Halo Spartan is in DOA4 so: Halo = anime-related. That being said, if your AMV is >51% real anime and the rest Halo, AND melds the sources in such a way that someone cannot say that the anime is tacked in there just to get the video onto A-M-V.org, then it is eligible to stay.

Anyone willing to go through the existing Halo videos and make a determination on whether a particular AMV stays or goes? There are some seemingly borderline entries here.

i bet you could join some halo communities on livejournal or something, Vidding might accept since they dont allow anime videos there... only thing is you gotta have your own hosting but you can always use something like:

http://www.savefile.com/

http://www.yousendit.com/

http://www.megaupload.com/

http://www.filefront.com/

http://www.sendspace.com/

for a file host if you cant afford your own hosting.
