HEY! Somebody is plagurizing my friend's work! Please help!

Post by Nroca Kao » Mon Jul 16, 2007 2:58 am

My friend Jeremiah posted a video called "Kingdom Fortuna" some time ago in 2004. This person, user name -kari-, has stolen his video and posted their name on it. My friend has not logged on in a while so his account was deleted. This person said they made it in 2003 which is an obvious lie because of the kingdom hearts 2 footage in it. Please help to stop this thief and fix this problem.

In addition, the version my friend has is higher quality, proving that it was made before that stolen one.

Accounts here don't get deleted...to the best of my knowledge, anyway.

Pertaining to your problem, post links to both videos along with a description of the problem in the Mod Drop Box forum, and it should all get cleared up.

Hmm, based on my quick searching, I don't see any evidence of this. There are a total of 10 known Jeremiah's on the org. Of them, only 2 of those have vids, and only 1 of them has Kingdom Hearts 2 videos. And that one uses the e-mail you posted in the mod's drop box (yes, I know you said it isn't his now email, but you posted it, so I'm going to assume that the account was made back when it WAS his email). Of those videos, none of them are named Kingdom Fortuna, none of them use the same audio as the -kari-'s Kingdom Fortuna, and (maybe most importantly) none of them are downloadable. No offense, but this doesn't really make me inclined to believe what you have just stated.

Hello, this is Kari. I have never had the pleasure of meeting you or your friend, but here are a few things you might consider before throwing accusations around:

First off: I did make the video. I edited it during my 2003 spring break after playing through Kingdom Hearts and captured cinematics and in-game footage using an ATI All-In-Wonder 128 Pro Capture Card. I edited the video in Premiere and, with little knowledge of compression or proper export codecs to use, exported and compressed it rather poorly as a .mpeg file. However, I uploaded only this one version to the .org back then (as noted in the 2003 premiere date, albeit a while after I had actually completed the video as I didn't have an account at the time I finished editing it). I do, however, still have the raw .avi version of the video before I converted it to mpeg. Your assertion that your friend's version is "higher quality" and therefore "genuine" appears purely subjective and I would advise you to present any more evidence you may have in order to more thoroughly substantiate your claim. (Not to be rude, but I highly doubt you have any other said "evidence.")

As for the footage, it is all from the original Kingdom Hearts; none of it is from Kingdom Hearts II or any of the series' other incarnations. Whatever clips you may think are from Kingdom Hearts II are most likely those from the secret ending "Another Side, Another Story" (e.g. the opening scene in the rain).

After finishing the video in the spring, I entered it in a local film society screening. This was during the summer of 2003. If you feel it is necessary, I can contact any of the contest's administrators for their testimony that I did in fact enter the video during that specific contest.

Also, I might ask that you find out when in 2004 your friend claims to have made the video, as I also entered it in the music video contest at Anime Expo 2004 (which takes place over the 4th of July weekend; the videos are usually required to be in around mid-May or earlier). While I don't know of any of the amv contest administrators keeping records of past videos, there are various reviewers on the internet who attended the contest and can attest that this video was there under my name.

As an extra note, I don't know if the dates are recorded with posted opinions or if you can see when they were written from the account of the one who wrote them, but if there is a way to see the post date you will find that many of the opinions for the video were written in 2003.

I hope this will get us closer to resolving this conflict. If you truly believe that your friend is the sole creator of Kingdom Fortuna, I'm afraid you have been sorely misinformed.

Sorry, got the deep dive footage mixed up. But my friend made it back in 9th grade, which, due to a miscalculation on my part, was in 2003. He forgot to put a watermark on it, and so you put your name on the end. I know you copied it, I sat and watched my friend spend hours making it, well I didn't watch for hours, but a good deal of the time.

It is true that .org accounts cannot be deleted solely due to inactivity. If this is the case, why wouldn't your friend post the video on his account? Or, if he did, why did he remove it?

I don't know what else I can do to dispute this. I suppose I could look for the project file, but I made this video quite a while ago (7th grade). Even if your friend had made it, I don't understand why persecuting me would do you any good.
