I haven't tried flying the He-111, but the only other flyable bomber in IL-2 (currently, more will soon be added) - the TB-3 (Slowest. Plane. Ever.) - reminds me more of commanding a ship than flying a plane. It would really be boring if you were stuck in the same seat for the whole mission. Luckily, you can switch positions on the fly, which makes it lots more fun. I usually just take off, then go to the bombardier's seat or one of the gunners, then land myself. The rest of the flying I leave to the AI.
As for the single-bomber missions - those can be done really well in IL-2. Granted, you probably wouldn't last long against the fighters But if you go just against flak, you'd most certainly be coming back home with some damage (emergency procedures in a sim - some real excitement )

This is a little off topic but this is a real neat page where they restore a tiger tank part by part. http://www.tiger-tank.com/index.html

No way!
Well, really, there is more planes out there than you can shake a stick at. In addition, there's a lot more planes that never made it to mass production than those that did. For instance, in the late 30's, the Russians almost made a flying submarine... though decided against implementing it.

The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…
