Pirates of the Caribbean (i'm such an original, I know)
yeah, yeah, cliche topic, the movie is hot right now and I'm and obsessed fan of Johnny Depp who's desperate for ANY excuse to talk about him.
So, with that out of the way, what did you all think? I've read some critics' reviews, and the general movement is heading towards a B, somehting about it being a way to hype the DisneyLand ride and being way to cliche. Ok, yeah, it DOES kinda hype the ride, but, really, what kind of a pirate movie isn't cliche? What kind of pirate movie do you not want to be? It would just screw the movie's entire theme to not include a good pirate, a bad pirate, respective crews, a pirate ship (or two), a hero, the hero's damsel in distress, a mutiny, a plank-walking, and having somebody get left on a deserted island? Leaving out any of that would ruin a classic pirate movie. I just bought the soundtrack today, and I had to call around before finding a place that wasn't sold out (yet).
The real sign that a movie isn't entertaining, and Pirates didn't feel at all like its two hours. More like a few minutes. It felt so SHORT. I hear there might be a sequel someday, but to tell the truth I hope not. The movie would be better off standing on its own as a classic, not the first of two (or worse, three). I mean, they planned from the beginning to make a second Spider Man (which also rocked, BTW), but Pirates didn't feel like it needed a second movie. I'm almost afraid of the sequel. I mean, have you even SEEN some of the recent Disney sequels? "Patch's Adventure"? "Cinderella 2, Dreams Come True"? So cheesy they could be spread on crackers. Creating a second movie just for a few extra bucks, or for the hope of a second smash hit, just destroys the dignity of the first. Leagally Blonde 2 was ok, but the first one really could have stood alone. Look at Miss Congeniality. Nobody made a second movie, and yet it is still being shown three nights in a row on TNT.
There really should be some movement or something that says there shouldn't be a second movie. I really think Pirates should stand on its own, and not be messed around with by adding more plot, more effects, or anything. If it stays by itself, untouched, with no attempts to re-produce its appeal in the same way, it will stay a classic, and that way all the more memorable.
anyway, there's my rant. Read it, love it, hate it, respond.

Ok, I screwed up what I meant to say in the middle there.
"The real sign that a movie isn't entertaining is if it feels long and dragged out, and Pirates didn't feel at all like its two hours. More like a few minutes. It felt so SHORT, like everything happened at such a fast pace and was so entertaining you barely noticed that any time had gone by."
That's the re-write. sorry, I just hate making those kind of errors that are stupid and cause confusion for the reader.

WHAT?! THEY ARE MAKING A SEQUEL!?!?!? NOOOOO!!!!!! Disney never makes good sequels!!! I mean, they may be ok but the majority of all the sequels they made are really not that great at all. I agree with the whole "There shouldn't be a Pirates of the Carribean sequel" thing because, well, I pretty much explained it. I really thought that Pirates of the Carribean was really good. I may be correct or just really bad with rating movies since I don't watch many movies at all (Even my 5-year-old nephew has watched more movies than I have in his last 3 years than my whole lifetime!)
"Johnny Depp was so slashy! I just love it!" quoted WingZerO
"Slash fans probably liked his walk a whole lot." Quoted myself
"I LOVE JOHNNY DEPP!" Quoted Heinz Ketchup (Not the ketchup, it's a nickname of a real person)
"It was so good that I watched it 3 times!!!!" Quoted Sparrow
I can tell that there are many people who like POTC

It was a good movie, an original plot, you must admit. IT WAS BASED OFF OF A FUCKING AMUSEMENT PARK RIDE!
League of Xtreme gentlemen was good too, except the plot twists seemed very stupid.
28 days later was good, but the very end was so fucking stupid.
All in all, I think this summer is a much better year for good movies than last year was.
