Thank you, Roke.

I would've said that, but it's better most of the time to jump the gun and write a whole enchilada for the overly questioning amigos.
I'm out...

I'd be curious how this was received there, given it's rather heavy anime influence...

Of course, I still remember getting a tape a guy we knew at school who was from Japan (this was like almost 10 years ago now) sent us when he went back after graduation of just taping a block of animated stuff... I don't think we've laughed harder than seeing Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in Japanese...

altogether I don't watch tv at all anyway. I watch movies. And flip when I'm tired until I find a movie or I go do something else. Unless I find an episode of something that was actually good (cosby show, old cartoon, basically something that's rerunning, seinfeld).

Although I do like watching the Jackie Chan cartoon, but I don't know when it comes on or look for it; I just flip and happen upon it.

So whether or not some other country has better TV then us, really means squat to me. Other then they probably have more people sucked into the dummy box then we do and I don't think that's necessarily good.

my opinions of tv in general, incl. japanese:

TV is not necesssarilty culture based, nor is it content "stupid/dumb/cliche" rated. There are types of programs which may be found to arbitrarily have "higher content" levels and some which don't. As you can see, Japanese television leverages the Anime versatile medium more often, which allows for a compensation in production level. In the States, we have live-action medium which is not as versatile but we have lots of that type of content.

Equating NHK to CBS, etc is not a viable metric. Let's not try to compare the Discovery Channel and Cinemax, they are two different non-creatures.

On an off note, the commercials I have seen from abroad are MUCH BETTER than US commercials. So maybe their shows suck as much as ours do, maybe it’s just the "watching something foreign" thing that makes it much more interesting. But some of the ads I have seen are absolutely hilarious I wish American ads would be that entertaining, maybe I would actually watch TV again.

I agree. It's like Superbowl ads every day there. Maybe because of the advertising cost...

Every compare www.apple.co.jp adverts to www.apple.com?
Much more objective.

I saw this Beevis and butthead commerical while on kaazaa for a japanees product called mintia. Don't know if it's real.

It's not american, but Monty Python's Flying Circus playes there, so does Fawlty Towers.
