Life actually evolved on Mars first and then migrated to Earth as bacteria on fragments thrown into space from meteor impacts on the Martian surface. 8)Kegger007 wrote:Why is there life on Earth?

nobody really knows why we're here or how we got here. scientists say they found "scientific evidence" that points to our origins but a lot of scientific discoveries are later contradicted. people don't like not knowing stuff so they find relief in religions that tell them how to think. i'm not saying that there isn't a god because i don't know and i don't pretend to know. i'm just saying that i don't agree with religions (especially religions that make people pay money for forgiveness). many of them preach about loving and respecting each other while saying that people who don't follow their beliefs are going to hell. religions are so hypocritical. but that's just my opinion.

While I like harping on the Mars thing, I also like Zecharia Sitchin's take on history and man's origins as he interpretted Summerian legends as containing a lot of truths. Good times.

Nibiru and the Sitchin Faith helped generate the ideas behind the movie Stargate, and the later TV series (i.e alien civilizations were responsible for the development of human cultures and mythology). I had heard about the idea previous to the movie's release, but really got into it after seeing the film for the first time.

It's funny how atheists will latch on to the supposed intellectual superiority of science in lieu of religious doctrine. Now, they're not really to blame, when you look at the childish and simplistically irrational beliefs of certain mainstream religions in comparison. But sadly it seems those religions are the only ones that the masses know anything about these days. By comparison, it takes a lot more intellect to comprehend the Vedas and Upanisads, which themselves only go hand in hand with rational scientific logic, than simplistic logical phenominalistic "science".kthulhu wrote:I think EC's point about atheism is that many people (poseurs, mainly) who claim to be atheist do it out of a sense of smugness, instead of logic. "Look at me, I don't believe in god! I'm so intellectually above it all!" seems to be a common attitude of many supposed "atheists".
It's a shame the west is lost in such sad clouded ignorance as far as religion goes. How many people have ever been exposed to vedic thought? Buddhism is just a statue of a fatass. Somehow, buddhism, hinduism, and islam are indistinguishable from one another to most people (which, btw, is ridiculous, as islam is much more similar to judaism and christianity than it is hinduism and buddhism).
Cosmic Egg eh, science is beginning to use old terms for it's reinvention of things already long known 8)An undetermined amount of pent up energy and materials were pent up in a small space known as a Cosmic Egg.
It's sad to see people thinking so completely inside the box. God is not some single infinite solution to the question of existance. The big bang is not some single infinite solution to the question of existance. If science would stop seeing the world through it's stubborn phenomenalistic tunnel vision and religion would stop seeing the world through it's unscientific blind doctrine maybe both would realize that they're one in the same, and existance can only be defined through the sesible, rational, logical combination of both.So you see, if you even try to think to times before the Big Bang, you will find it hard to find a logical solution for the start of this Universe. It is beyond our comprehension most of the time, but there is one answer that we can think of that doesn't use science. God. There I said it. God. Religion is the one thing that can explain our existence. I also find that some people fail to see the symbolism in the Bible. I think it is too literal to take the Seven days creation as it is. The only reason it was written that way was to put it into the understanding of the people of that timeframe. Try to explain evolution of planets and intersteallar physics to the people of 2000 BC, and on. They would not comprehend, so the Bible was written in a format to suit the times.
We have our completely atheistic public schools, and our one-religion private schools. Maybe if we were educated in all belief systems, the world would be less lame.

I for one must be hallucinating. I was in two near death situations and both times I saw the same angel...
I'm Christian. Lots of people [the atheists of course] just assumed I got these hallucinations from my "beliefs". That was, until another atheist friend of mine got in a near death situation...
It's only when you nearly die that I believe something "clicks". If an atheist sees angels, what does that mean?

Damn, it's good to see a good religious discussion thread.
To play Devil's Advocate is my nature; I'll do what I can to add to this discussion.
Thinking about the beginning of existence, as related to causality, leads us to two conclusions. Either cause and effect lead back into an infinite past, without there being any true start ('infinite regression'), or something came first, the usual term is 'First Cause' or 'Uncaused Cause'. The closest analogy to infinite regression is an unending domino chain. However, this is not entirely accurate as dominoes have to be set up by someone.
The Uncaused Cause is generally referred to as God; if you choose to believe that explanation.
Whether actual worship of God is reasonable is something else entirely unrelated to whether or not He exists.
Most of what I've said so far is pretty standard, but that doesnt' make it unimportant.
