I think that what struck me most about Underworld was that, when presented with the option of advancing plot in a retarded way it opted for a different path more often than I generally see in movies. Of course, this isn't to say that it wasn't without such bollocks. For example, it was refreshing to see Viktor actually defeat Michael despite him being the super vampire-werewolf thing, but his death (if inevitable) was still pretty stupid.
And damn, Craven actually killing Lucian and surviving the movie? That's the sort of thing I want to see happen in movies but never (well, rarely now) do.
The trailer really didn't do the film any justice, as I'd went in expecting it to suck and left pretty impressed.

Perhaps it would of been better if Micheal had bitten Viktor? Since it could of supposedly killed Viktor, but I dunno with the whole half and half thing that was going on, it might have just made him into another mix breed.
Viktor was something of an anti-Yoda from my perspective. They speak of this great and powerful vampire and when you get to first see him, it's kinda comical, being a rather thin, old...corpse...., but then you see him punch that guys face off..woof.
alot of turns in the movie were for the better, Viktor beating Micheal, Lucian dying rather unexpectedly. Even the ending, you'd think the two would of had some sappy love ending after seeing them look at each other for 7 seconds (felt like 20), but they just kinda walk off sorta dismally like "Well there goes the neighborhood..."
I just hope that in the 2nd movie that one big black lycan that wouldn't die will be in it just to kill more people like the bad ass he was. He sure made everyone is bitch, especially that vamp with the whips.

Seconded, but I loved the way they filmed that whole sequence. Guy whips out the whips, dude starts transforming, whips start circling, guy continues transforming, whips speed up, still transforming, whips hit hyperspeed.
