Additionally, while I was not overly impressed with the stories in Grandia II or Grandia X, the sense of adventure, fun, and character development made the original Grandia I a delight once you got into it.
Yeah. Grandia II really rocked with its Battle System! I am playing thru it right now, and I think I am almost thru (I'm on Valmar's moon now). I too love the system and how you can time your attacks, dodge, make a counter and the likes. Also the items and skills with the skillbooks are really fun and usable. Like I have Tio to be my "item whore". When she tosses out one item, she goes from COM to ACT in almost no time, and after that, she starts at almost COM again...
Really an intuitiv and innovative system!

Peace out,

Yeah, but that didn't stop it from being a great game with masses of extra's. Especially if you owned the Internation/PAL version.

Chrono trigger had an amazing battle system, techs, regular attacks and magic and oaf course there was the amazing dual and triple tech system which is still my favorite in RPGs. Thigns likeKingdom Hearts are becomign increasingly popular ever since Zelda founded the 3d RPG combat system in real time, PSO uses it, KH uses it, a lot of people seem to like it.

True, but the turn based battle system has always been my favourite...

I found KH's battle system to be extremely boring. Having no control at all over the other characters on your team once you entered a battle was terrible.
